My maternal grandfather was named Louis Martin from the village of Lisieux. From what I was told the Martin family in Lisieux were all pretty much related. His family migrated from France in April 1912. He was about 8 y/o at the time. They were to embark from Le Havre to connect to a packet freighter that would take them to Cherbourg to board a brand new ship to sail to North America to eventually settle in Canada. Their papers were not in order so they were delayed a week and caught the next ship. Their original passage was booked on the Titanic. He told me stories how he saw the ‘berg” with the red stripe down its side as well as other stories about ship board life from an 8 y/o’s perspective.
