A great big Thank You! NYer for this article. All that is
described fits my hometown Chicago of the same period. I,
however, was born in 1951 in the 1st suburb west - Oak Park -
and by that post-WWII time immigrant groups were assimilating
in the suburbs. The only rivalry I recall was that between the
Irish on St. Pat's day vs the Italiians on St. Joe's day. But
for the most part, all described here fits my youth, and I
treasure these memories.
