Bergoglio honored his friend, Rabbi Skorka, with the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) / Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina, on the 50th Anniversary of the opening of Vatican II.

Skorka, openly supports homosexual unions.
