Very good points. There have probably always been many people who really weren't interested in getting involved, so to speak, not only sexually but emotionally. They often enjoyed the company of their brothers and sisters and their families, but either had other interests or just simply personalities that weren't going to be comfortable in that life.
And now in our sex-obsessed society, they've all been forced to announce that this means that they're "gay." Look at all the effort modern literary "scholars" put into trying to prove that one or another early writer who never married but had friends was either actively homosexual or secretly lusting for his friends. Said writer would have been shocked and disgusted, but now, since sex is all, this is unthinkable to the modern mind.
The spurious claims go unanswered, even repeated with each gay defender adding more "facts" of their own until many "low information" people actually believe the lie and argue the pro-gay case!
