Russian Military Debuts 'Flying' Church, Parachuting-Priest Unit

The Russian military has introduced a high-tech air-dropped church along with a unit of priests trained in parachuting and vehicle assembly to serve the army and navy's Orthodox Christian soldiers in the field. The European country claims its airborne-friendly and ready-to-assemble house of worship is the first the world has ever seen, although similar structures have long been in existence.

RIA Novosti, Russian's official news and information agency, shared photos over the weekend on its Facebook page of paratroopers holding exercises near Ryazan, about 124 miles from Moscow. The news agency noted that among the "ordinary paratroopers" were paratrooper priests and their "mobile cathedral."

The paratrooper chaplains are among a preliminary group of about a dozen Russian Orthodox Church priests assigned to the country's Baltic Fleet in an effort to restore full-service chaplaincy to the country's armed forces, according to RIA Novosti. Russia is reportedly planning to assign 400 military chaplains to army and naval units.

A spokesman for the Western Military District told the news agency that the paratrooper priests' primary responsibilities were "to meet the spiritual demands of military personnel and to improve morale and discipline in military units."

What an upside down world we live in. I could not have imagined a world like this 20+ years ago. The Russians dropping churches while our chaplains may have to perform same sex marriage. We have atheist suing about a cross at ground zero. Maybe this is the end.

The Russians....think what you want about them, but never, ever, ignore them, because ultimately they will amaze you with their ingenuity, and it appears that Russia Resurgent may now also have G-d on its side. They are one of the world’s few imperial peoples of history and we disregard them only at our peril.

The US and Imperial Russia had good relations, I see no reason why it can’t be that way again.

I heard in 1863 Russians had naval stations for both Pacific and Baltic fleets in San Francisco and NYC respectively. Some historians believes it was a major factor deterring France and Britain from invading US during Civil War.

Composer Rimsky-Korsakov was a naval officer on one of those Russian naval vessels. He mentioned seeing a performance of Gounod’s “Faust” in NYC on shore leave and visiting Niagara Falls...

Isn’t this sort of a state religion, while the Russians persecute other Christians?

Quite right, Christian missionaries not of the Russian Orthodox Church are harassed & even deported. At least they don’t get sent to the Gulag.

The Russian Church has been referred to as “Christianity’s dark side”. You would think that with their growing Muslim problem they would need all the allies they could find.

Even Moscow, which once again dubs itself the Third Rome, is under Muslim encroachment complete with demands that churches be “temporarily” used as mosques.
