Pius was a hero. He saved thousands of Jews from certain death and this is what Pope Francis wants the liberal Catholic Church haters to know.
Maybe so....but the Church’s role in the Ustashe’s bloody reign in Croatia is a huge black mark on the Church.

What you say is true, but good like trying to shake the "Pope Pius XII was a Nazi sympathizer" meme from certain people.
Pius is vilified for not loudly excommunicating Hitler and other high-ranking nominally Catholic Nazis, when the fact is he was doing what he had to do to protect Catholic clergy in Germany, many of whom were already suspect for greater loyalty to Rome than the Third Reich. Had Pius publicly spoken out against Hitler at every turn, he would have signed the arrest warrant (or worse) for thousands of clergymen in Germany and its occupied territories.
