Vatican City, Mar 11, 2013 / 10:04 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In a change to past papal elections, the new Pope will have the chance to adore Jesus in the Eucharist before he makes his appearance on the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Vatican press office director Father Federico Lombardi told journalists March 11 that, “when the Pope goes to the loggia, he passes the Pauline Chapel and will stop there for a brief moment of personal prayer and silence in front of the Blessed Sacrament.”

The Vatican press office was buzzing with journalists looking for news about the March 12 Conclave, which will begin at around 5:00 in the evening.

Before looking ahead to the voting, Fr. Lombardi reviewed the cardinals final general meeting, which was held this morning.

The cardinals made 28 interventions before the assembly voted to end their meetings, given that the Conclave will begin on Tuesday.

Fr. Lombardi reminded the media of the general schedule for the Conclave and then later walked through the ceremony that occurs immediately after a new Pope is chosen.

Bet second vote takes it....Italian pope!!

I do not believe there will ever be a USA pope because of the scandals.....and everyone here knew what was going on....sadly, the biggest cover up in the history of the church.

If the new pope is from the purple mafia, how will we know?

What would the “adoration” be like then?

It’s Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament BY the Pope , NOT OF the Pope.

Wow! That is a really dumb headline. Very confusing even for a Catholic.

Surprising that stopping by the chapel to spend some time with the Blessed Sacrament is a new touch for the new pope rather than a practice of long standing.

The sad reality is that scandels has hit the Catholic Church in a number of countries, not just the USA.

You NEVER KNOW what the Holy Spirit can do. It may NOT be an Italian to be the next Pope. I sense old common wisdom rules may be broken.

Let the Holy Spirit do HIS work.

I really know so very little about any of 'em, I hardly have the right to an opinion.

But when you're thinking "American Cardinal," keep in mind there's Cardinal Raymond Burke (Link), now head of the Apostolic Signatura (equivalent of the Catholic Supreme Court).

No cover-ups from him, AND a huge opponent of the cover-uppers.

A serious doctrine and discipline man. He thinks --- thanks be to God --- like a Catholic.

Surprising that stopping by the chapel to spend some time with the Blessed Sacrament is a new touch for the new pope rather than a practice of long standing.
Cardinal George (Chicago) admitted to my husband years ago that he didn't have the time to pray before the Blessed Sacrament every day. So my guess is that this could apply to many of the cardinals present (and voting). Sad ("surprising") indeed.
