Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly, who is writing an upcoming book titled “Killing Jesus,” proclaimed on his program Wednesday night that “a lot of the Bible is allegorical,” and the New Testament Gospels contradict themselves.

O’Reilly made the remarks during an interview with “Touched by an Angel” star Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett, executive producers of “The Bible” TV miniseries which begins this Sunday night on the History Channel.

... and I suppose this person believed an English translation of the Latin Vulgate to be somehow more true to Hebrew, lol?

“US” is the trilogy. God the Father, Jesus the Son and The Holy Spirit. Gos manifests himself in 3 ways.

Incorrect. That is from Genesis, 1:26 and 1:27, and has to do with what the great scholar Rashi called the Lord's "humility"...

26. And God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness

Rashi: From here we learn the humility of the Holy One, blessed be He. Since man was created in the likeness of the angels, and they would envy him, He consulted them. And when He judges kings, He consults with His Heavenly household.

The very next section shows that this is not referring to a trilogy...

27. And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

re: “The plural in this case is literal. “Elohim” is the plural of “Eloah”.”

You are correct that “Elohim” is plural, and what’s interesting the article preceding Elohim is for singular, not a plural. This is why some New Testament scholars believe that the “we” passages with the singular article reflect the idea of “many” in one (the Trinity?).

Also, for those who say the “we” is due to the “royal we” that was used in King James time must remember that that is not the reason the “we” is used - it is used because it is in the Hebrew text itself, but there was no royal “we” usage in Old Testament times. That was a later european practice.

It’s not a contradiction, it’s a translation issue. See here for the explanation:

The only disciple whom " GOT IT " was John until after Christ died and rose again.
Many people think that our modern new testament was written in Greek, but was it ?
Jesus and his disciples were all Jewish, with Hebrew backgrounds, and in private spoke Hebrew... so is it to far fetched to say that they ? Jesus's apostles first wrote it in Hebrew then, Aramaic ? then into Greek ?
I believe that many books of the New Testament were written way before many of these so called " Experts " say they were written.
If ? these books were written 60 70 80 years after the fact ?
Why does these books of the New Testament do not record the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. ?

I believe many of these books of the New Testament were written a few years after Jesus ascended into Heaven.

I believe many of these books of the New Testament were written soon after Christ rose again and ascension into heaven while this was fresh to them.
The experts want to give it many decades after the fact so they can say that there is room for error...and yes,,, I am saying that the so called " Experts " are all wrong.

How about those paid witnesses who were paid and called upon to witness and testify against Jesus in a trumped up trial ?
The bible records that all their testimony and the witnesses contradicted each other's testimony.
In the old Testament law no one could be put on trial or put to death unless the case was established upon 2 or more witnesses testimony, but they condemned Jesus to the cross anyway and crucified him.

Actually I have come to a place in my life where I don’t care what man thinks, or what people have to say any more, the only thing that matters is what God says.

" Eyewitness accounts so seldom match down to every last detail that it’s actually suspicious when they do "

As in the main stream media's daily propaganda and mantra spewing out their lies.
As Rush Limbaugh would put it, the main stream media's " Temp let " sound bites, you turn to a different channel ? it's the same thing repeated over and over again in some kind of major conspiracy.

You have made one of the wisest statements I've read in a long, long time.
The lesson to learn in this thread can be found here.

Yes, but, the lesson I have learned in life has not come easy.
Perhaps ? that's the reason why God has to send us trials to wake us up, to stop listening to the foolishness of man, stop listening to the voice of man, the only voice worth listening to is God.
Don't get me wrong though, there are some people that God sends into our lives to give us wisdom and guidance, but, we need to learn how to discern that carefully.
I think the same thing goes for God's people, Christians, stop being to busy worrying and listening to what the world has to say, what man has to say, what the main stream media has to say and start listening to what God has to say about your life.
Turn off the dang TV and main stream media's babble and voices.

no problem for me, even with that language/translation. for me, what God can do in mass, He could easily repeat for a specific purpose. note: my version of the KJ translation omits the word “When.” maybe that makes it easier. i also noticed a comment on a possible problem with verb tense translation. either way, it doesn’t change what is important about what God is saying about Creation.

In Genesis, when God condemned the serpent to crawl on his belly forever....any idea how it got around before that?

Bill O’Reilly contradicts Bill O’Reilly — so what's the problem? BOR just thinks he's G_d. Most of us know he's just a bloviating fool.

re: “Here we see Man created and then all the animals, specifically and given by name including cattle and birds, both of which were specifically named in Genesis 1 as having been created before man. The same is true of plants and many other things as well, but this was the best example I think. It would be very hard to see this as anything other than a contradiction, unless one resorts to wildly strange ways of reading the text.”

This is another one of those passages that you must read in context of the whole of chapter 2. If you look carefully, you will see that the events mentioned in this chapter are not always in chronological order. For example in Genesis 2:5-7:

“5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. 7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

Here it looks as if man was created prior to any plant life, but then look at verse 8:

“8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

Though it looked as though man was created before any plant life, it mentions in verse 8 that God had already planted a garden and put the man he created there.

The next few verses tell us how God placed man in the garden and told him to work it and take care of it, and, to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then in verse 18 God observes that it is not good that man be alone and it mentions in verse 19:

“Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky.” (NIV)

Notice it says that the Lord God “had formed” the animals. It indicates that the animals had already been around, just like plant life and the garden had already been in existence prior to Adam being put in the garden.

I am curious as to what translation of the Bible you are using that has Genesis 2:19 beginning with the word “when”. I have looked at over 30 different translations and none of them begin verse 19 with the word “when”. Most say, “and out of the ground God formed”, “the Lord God HAD formed”, or “So the Lord God formed”.

The use of the word “when” can make it sound like Adam was around first. So, like I said, I am curious as to the translation you are quoting from. I’ve checked, as I said, over 30 translations, including the KJV, the NKJV, NIV, NASB, RSV, and none began verse 19 with the word “when”.

It's more than just that.
God's word tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds by his word.

Many things that we are taught in life, man's concepts ? ideas ? ways ? are they true ?

I have more to up lift you with It will bless you.

I was going through the same thing that Bishop and pastor T.D. Jakes was going through.

It so happened, when I was in deep depression ( yeah, he also has another sermon, " THINGS JUST DONT HAPPEN. " ...
Anyway, I was in deep depression, no purpose in life, and it so happened, remember ? things just don't happen in a Christian’s life.

This sermon from T.D. Jakes is on YouTube called " WHY DID GOD CHOSE ME ".

He goes on and says he was in a place in his life where he felt that he was sinking, drowning, and he needed a life line to pull him back up and give him a reason to go on living.( must have been many years ago when he was young )
He said he got tired of man's counsel, man's fodder, and so he dug into God's word.
He goes on how God knew us even before we were created in our mother's womb.
He says that God knew us even before this world was formed.
God ordained you, and set you apart for a purpose, and when God willed you to be, and to be birthed, nothing in this world could stop your birth and God's will.
The greatest honor, praise, gift you can give back to God is be the person, and purpose whom God created you to be.
I was at the place in life that I got tired of what man, people were saying, it's all a lie.

Have you ever been at the place of life where everything you have been taught, told to believe in was all a lie ?

Have you ever had a dream that God has given you and when you told other people they discouraged you ? told you that you can't do it ? told you that you can't open a business ? that you can't do this, you can't do that ?

Have you ever had God tell you that God loves you and then had people tell you that your a nobody ? a loser ?

I got so sick and tired of what people have to say.

And another thing ?

Have you noticed ? for example ?

Celebrating New Years leaves a empty feeling in your soul ?
What's the point ? what the purpose ?

I have come to a place in life where the only thing worth celebrating is God, and God alone.

But we should watch and pay attention to the things that were said to pass, so we'll know and prepare
and hopefully avoid the destruction and flee when we should flee.

" In Genesis, when God condemned the serpent to crawl on his belly forever....any idea how it got around before that? "

FEDEX ? just joking... lol

However ? the serpent was only a vehicle and vessel into which the devil possessed to do his dirty work.

The serpent allowed the devil to take him over, or we can say that the serpent was just a animal and didn't have a choice or soul to resist.
The devil could not be allowed to take over Adam and Eve, he had to lie and trick them first.

That goes without saying, that we should first seek God, pray and use wisdom in all situations in life with the Holy Spirit as our helper.
