I haven’t noticed any more than usual here in the Florida Panhandle. Actually I don’t think I have seen any recently.

When I lived in Western Kansas there were not many insects but they really did have a fly problem. Big nasty biting ones at that. Once we had a plague of crickets but it didn’t last long.

I live in Eastern Kansas and we always have a fly problem in the summer. The fact that we live a few hundred yards from a stable and about a mile from a cattle exchange probably has a lot to do with it.

The worst fly problem I ever saw was two summers ago while camping in the Idaho panhandle. The only place you could get any relief was by staying by the campfire (apparently, flies don't like smoke). My sons and I went out shooting but finally quit because it was hard to concentrate on aiming when there was this constant swarm of flies around your face. Once I violently shook my arm to dislodge all the flies and then held my arm out for about 30 seconds - my sons counted at least 70 flies on my arm - and I swear, I showered that morning. It was unbelievable.
