A week after Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, stated that the Obama administrations most recent compromise on the HHS mandate fails to preserve the religious liberty of Catholic individuals and Catholic institutions, the president of the Catholic Health Association (CHA) stated that the proposal represents substantial progress.
The structures that HHS intends to use to provide contraceptive services to employees of non-profit religious organizations have yet to be finalized, especially for those who are self-insured, said Sister Carol Keehan, who revealed that we have been asked by HHS to evaluate three possible options for using a third party administrator (TPA) and make recommendations.
Catholics should select a Catholic as president of the Catholic Health Association. But who are we to talk - Americans should select an American as president of the United States of America.
It is a binary proposition - either Obama forces them to pay for their employees’ birth control or he doesn’t. There is no space for a compromise.
Precisely.
If she were truly Catholic, her response to HHS would be: “Sorry, I don’t speak for the Church on these matters.”
