Yeah, I get annoyed at Christmas when Joseph and Mary are depicted as destitute and homeless, when they arrive in Bethlehem for Jesus's birth. Joseph was a skilled craftsman, so it's likely they were not destitute. When they arrive in Bethlehem, they are not 'homeless'; they have a home in Nazareth. It would be as though someone arrived in a decent sized city during a large event, and there were no rooms in any hotels. That doesn't make them homeless, just not able to find a room for the night.

I know why folks compare the Holy Family to the poor and homeless; it's a 'Social Justice' thing, but it's very annoying.

True dis!

MY wife and I arrived late in Bryce, Utah one night and tried to get a room there.

We got the M&J reply, too.

BAcktracked 50-75 miles or so to Escalante where we overnighted in a State Park Campground.

Agreed. Liberals have succeeded in convincing people that poverty permeates the Bible. They have people convinced that "the poor" is mentioned in just about every chapter of the Bible so must be the first thing in God's mind.

Well, I've decided to read the Bible now with that in mind. I'm doing in-depth study of the Gospel of John right now...am on about the 8th chapter and still no mention of "the poor" at all.

I suspect there's much less of it in the Gospels and other NT books than most believe.

Sure, God does care for those suffering in poverty especially when it's not their own doing. But it is not NEARLY the theme in the Bible that the liberals claim it is; the over-whelming theme in the Bible is righteousness and the Kingdom of God. I think once this misunderstanding gets pushed back we may very well see revival.
