"When I started this article about what we face in the 113th Congress, I was focused on the challenge and frustration of trying to govern with an intransigent minority that would rather wreck the economy than grow it. The tea party fringe of the Republican Party has held the government hostage and while their attitude has not changed, what is different is the experience and commitment of others to do what is good for the country. The President’s Inaugural address and the apparent “results” of the Republican “retreat” last week have lightened my mood and encouraged me to think that there are some ways forward."
"At a meeting with Vice President Biden 10 days ago, about ending gun violence in our nation, I realized that fear is at the heart of many of our concerns. The desire to have all sorts of fire arms comes in response to fear of others and fear of government. Negative attitudes toward immigrants seem to be rooted in fear of the stranger and fear about our economic vulnerability. Fear about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act often seems to be rooted in the fear that there is not enough health care to go around and the individual will be left out. Taxes and federal budget issues are often rooted in fear about the impact on business or individuals at the margins of our society. In short it seems to me that many of our issues as a nation are rooted in the same crippling fear."
I came across this "call to action" at my school. Sr. Simone is the disgraceful nun funded by George Soros to undermine the Catholic Church. She perverts the teachings of Jesus in pursuit of her socialist agenda. Meanwhile, she ignores the 4000 unborn babies murdered each and every day by her heroes in the Obama administration. I'm so disgusted by this letter. Government compulsion is not charity. Charity should be personal. Jesus taught us to "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's." Who is this woman to question my faith and my charity because I don't believe in the socialist, progressive agenda of the Left? She wants to bury my future children and grandchildren in debt, so illegals and welfare abusers can exploit our healthcare system.
My mom asked me today when I would return to attending Church on a weekly basis. After reading this letter, I will continue to worship God in my own personal way, and avoid attending a Church that refuses to condemn this progressive liberal nonsense.
If you’re going to live in a bubble, at least realize you are living in that bubble, and in doing so, you’re losing the cultural war. I’ve read plenty of encyclicals through my education. I’ve been going to Catholic schools for over 17 years now. While, my grade school and high school promoted the actual tenets of the faith, the universities have consistently promoted an agenda-driven version of Catholicism. You choose to ignore all the Catholic universities that choose to promote the progressive agenda, and don’t think it will affect the Church. I believe you are sadly mistaken. Pope John Paul II helped end communism through the solidarity movement. These progressives wish to make communism a tenet of the faith. Talk to young “Catholics” if you don’t believe me. Many believe in homosexual marriages and aborticides, and some even argue that abortion and Catholicism can coincide. These values are being promoted at the universities. You choose to live in your bubble referencing encyclicals and not realizing that our religion is being perverted by the radical left.
