VATICAN CITY – Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta took a break Wednesday from war planning and leading the world’s most powerful military to pay his respects to Pope Benedict XVI, a champion of peace.
Panetta, a devout Catholic who proudly wears his Italian American heritage on his sleeve, was beaming as he sat in a front row reserved for VIPs during the pope’s weekly general audience in a Vatican auditorium.
After listening to a papal address in several languages, Panetta and three of his military aides — along with dozens of other Catholics — lined up to meet Benedict and receive his blessing.
Afterward, Panetta said the pontiff told him, “Thank you for helping to keep the world safe.”
The Pentagon chief said he replied, “Pray for me.”
Panetta’s aides said it was his third papal audience. Panetta’s first papal audience happened when he came to Rome as President Bill Clinton’s chief of staff and met with Pope John Paul II. He met with John Paul II again when the pope visited Washington.
Panetta, 74, is visiting European capitals to meet with NATO allies during what he has said is “likely” to be his last international trip as defense secretary. President Obama has nominated former senator Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) to succeed Panetta at the Pentagon.

Pope Benedict XVI greets U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta after the pontiff's weekly general audience in Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.
Question for Panetta ... how often do you pray for the pope?

In private it most likely would have looked more like Michael Corleone’s confession.

Panetta, a devout Catholic..and staunch Democratic operative, believes in abortion, Marxism, the elimination of God in the Democratic Party platform and the destruction of the U.S. Constitution that he swore to God to protect and defend.
That's a lot for prayer to overcome, Leon, especially since you are unrepentant.

Fixing this — Panetta, only a CINO,
After all, he is a democrat and supports abortion and euthanasia, for those items are in their party platform.
