What would you do with that specific information if you had it ? The author’s web site(s) are included, and he can be asked directly, if there is a legitimate need for you to know that information. Maybe it’s not about guts-—perhaps the man in California requested the information not be divulged until something else is taken care of, etc.

Are you suggesting that I have an illegitimate reason for wanting to know? I'm really not sure what I have to do with it. It would lend credibility to the claim, and it would also expose the official to some much needed criticism (No?). What would I do? Not much from three time zones away, but I suspect that there might be some very appropriate blow-back at the local level (No?).

Maybe there is something else being taken care of. I suppose there could be some kind of response plan in action that requires this person's name to be held in secret. Maybe there is no “legitimate” need for the public (not just me) to know that information about a public official.

Sorry if I hit a nerve about guts, but it is ironic that in an article about being kicked around, the author wouldn't even name the name of someone behaving rather despicably. Unless confronted, that county official will simply kick again, harder.
