Pray for our American Heroes and our Nation.

The Lord knoweth the days of the upright:
and their inheritance shall be for ever.
(Psalm 37:18)
TOPICS: Prayer
KEYWORDS: heroes; nation; prayer
Father, You urge us in Your absolute mercy toward us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This is our spiritual act of worship. You call on us, Your children in this Nation, not to conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Then we will be able to test and approve what Your will is--Your good, pleasing, and perfect will! Father, help us, Your children in this Nation, and all our American Heroes, to clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ and not to think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. We desperately need Your help to do this, Father! Teach us and help us!We all like sheep, had gone astray, each of us had turned to his own way; but the Lord laid on You, Jesus, the iniquity of us all. O Lord, because You are our help, we sing in the shadow of Your wings. Our souls cling to You; Your right hand upholds us. When Your kindness and love appeared, You saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of Your mercy, You saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom You poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by Your grace, we would become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Amen and amen.

Still In Gods Hands
October 9, 2012
During my first year of seminary, I listened as a new friend described her life. Abandoned by her husband, she was raising two small children alone. Earning just over minimum wage, she had little chance of escaping the poverty and dangers she described in her neighborhood.
As a father, I was moved by her concern for her children, and asked, How do you handle all of this? She seemed surprised by my question and replied, We are doing all we can do, and I must leave them in Gods hands. Her trust in God in the midst of trials reminded me of Jobs trust (1:6-22).
A year later, she phoned and asked if I would come be with her at the funeral home. Her son had been killed in a drive-by shooting. I asked God for words to comfort her and for the wisdom not to try to explain the unexplainable.
Standing with her that day, however, I marveled as again and again she comforted othersher confidence in God unshaken by this terrible blow. Turning to me as we parted, her final words were a poignant reminder of the depth of her faith: My boy is still in Gods hands. Like Job, she did not sin nor charge God with wrong(v.22).
We too can develop an unshakable faith by daily walking with the Lord.
O the peace I find in Jesus,
Peace no power on earth can shake,
Peace that makes the Lord so precious,
Peace that none from me can take. Beck
Nothing can shake those who are secure in Gods hands.

*** Almighty and Eternal God, Protect our military as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home safely to the people who love them and to the gratitude of the American people. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
