Father, how great is Your love that You have lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! As we walk with You, Lord, You will not let our feet slip--You who watch over us will not slumber: indeed, You who watch over Your children in this Nation, and You who watch over all our American Heroes will neither slumber nor sleep. You, the Lord, watch over us--You are our shade at our right hand; the sun will not harm us by day nor the moon by night. Lord Jesus, You Yourself bore our sins in Your body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by Your wounds we have been healed. For we were like sheep going astray, but now we have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. Lord God, cause our heart, soul, and mind to be so overtaken by Your grace that we share the testimony of the sinful woman who anointed Your feet. In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
