The worldwide collapse of Christianity is set to take place due to a purported Gospel of Barnabas, claims an Iranian newspaper. But Christians have dismissed the claims, describing them as "laughable."
The text was discovered 12 years ago in an anti-smuggling sting in Turkey, and Iranian news outlet Basij claims it says Jesus was never crucified and that he was not the Son of God.
The paper also argues that in the text Jesus himself predicts the coming of Muhammad.
The text was written in Syriac on animal hide, and Basij argues that it was written in the 5th or 6th centuries.
Christian scholars, however, have dismissed the text, rebuking it as a fake and saying that interest in the discovery was sparked only after the Vatican made an official request to review the text back in February.
Basij also claims that Chapter 41 of the text says that Islam is the final and righteous religion.
"God has hidden himself as Archangel Michael ran them (Adam and Eve) out of heaven, (and) when Adam turned, he noticed that at the top of the gateway to heaven, it was written 'La elah ela Alla, Mohamad rasool Allah (Allah is the only God and Mohamad his prophet),'" the Iranian news outlet claims.
"The discovery of the original Barnabas Bible will now undermine the Christian Church and its authority and will revolutionize the religion in the world," the report claims.
St. Barnabas was one of the earliest Christian disciples in Jerusalem. He traveled alongside Saint Paul undertaking missionary journeys and was a prominent leader in the formative days of the Church.
Phil Lawler, editor at Catholic World News and author of six books has described the report as a "laughable Iranian challenge to Christianity."
"If the document was written in the 5th of 6th century, it couldn't very well have been written by someone who was traveling with St. Paul about 400 years earlier," Lawler wrote.
"It must have been written by someone who was claiming to represent St. Barnabas. Should we accept that claim? Another good question."
good luck with that
I’ve read copies of that apocryphal “gospel” online. It reads exactly like the Koran. The last verse contains a blasphemy that accuses the apostle Paul of apostasy (against Allah that is).
"...it says Jesus was never crucified and that he was not the Son of God."
How do you know that Christianity is the one true worldview?
I have a home movie from the time of Jesus that would blow the lid off Christianity.
RE: “...it says Jesus was never crucified and that he was not the Son of God.”
That’s EXACTLY what Islam teaches. Jesus is their prophet but he is NOT divine.
To worship Jesus as God is blasphemy to Islam.
Anyone who claims that the roads of Islam and Christianity lead to the same God clearly DOES NOT understand what Islam and Christianity teaches.
You cannot reconcile one with the other without violating the law of non-contradiction.
On this issue, either Islam is right or Christianity is or both are wrong.
Islam=Satanism
why can’t we just turn the whole place into a freaking sand bowl.
It was like that in OT times. You go against God, you get zotted. Some portray Jesus as a hippy but he wasn’t. Praise God that Christians are under a better covenant. Iran however, is NOT.
The paper also argues that in the text Jesus himself predicts the coming of Muhammad.
WOW!!! What a coincidence.
Found in Iran and it coincides perfectly with the blather found in the koran!!!
Who'd have thunk it!
Is that allah you got in yer bag o lies satan?
I’ve got the menu from the Last Supper. I got it from Fr Guido Sarducci.
The Gospel of “Barnabas” = another book of “mormon”,
.
.
both false.

Christianity as it exists today is showing some real wheel wobble; i.e. “gay marriage” some of its leaders denying the Lords divinity etc. Some recently found pseudo gospel will not destroy Christianity, but its current leadership just might.
Sorry, not even close.
If Jesus lied about being the Son of God, why would I believe his prediction about Mohammad?
‘Gospel of Barnabas,’ by Dan Brown.
Another huge lie from the liar religion created by the biggest liar of all time: the Enemy of God.
Various ‘leaders’ and churches are indeed showing ‘wheel wobble’.
“Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.”
They aren’t the first, and won’t be the last. However, they will be dealt with and Christianity will soldier on.
Could you explain?
Both of those “books” are as phony as three dollar bills.
Good speaker. Thanks.
I believe I am correct in saying that ALL the accepted canon of the New Testament were written either by Apostles (to include Paul) or their very close associates. For example, the Gospel of Mark is thought to actually be Peter’s account as told to Mark (John Mark, I think). I also think that all books of the NT have reliable dating before AD 80, only about 50 years after the crucifixion of Christ. Working on memory here, and I am not a trained Biblical scholar.
No way could a document written over 500 years later could even remotely be considered for canon. Many of the so-called gospels or books that were left out of canon were written by Gnostics, whose theolgy was clearly and forcefully debunked by Paul. The History and Discovery channels carry on a cottage industry of second guessing the books chosen for the canon by conjuring up a conspiracy theory as to why the Gnostic literature was excluded. Most Christians, sadly, do not know why.
The claims by the Iranians are laughable rubbish and probably mere hog dung propaganda for the consumption of their captive Muzzie audience.
Only the Bible says what happens thousands of years before it happens.
The Koran does not do this. It in an imposter.
i have one too! Is yours an mp4? Mine is avi, so it is obviously older and the genuine one.
I’ll wait for the Hollywood version.
Guys, it’s a fake. The idiots that produced this “Gospel” and the Enemedia that ran with the story didn’t even bother consulting anyone that can read Syriac to verify if what the Turkish/Iranian authorities are about the text are true.

It’s NOT 1500 years old aka written sometime in 500 AD. According to the text in the picture of the “Gospel” it was WRITTEN in 1500 AD. And that’s just one of the many problems with it.
Muslims are notorious liars (like how they claim Buddhist and Hindu scripture foretells of Mohammed’s arrival). For all we know this just another copy of the 15th-16th century Gospel of Barnabas that they (Muslims) tried to pass off as the real deal.
Long time lurker but I felt I needed to sign up to post this.
I thought I was the only one who missed dear old Fr. Guido. How I miss his insights!
Sure. As I understood the article and comments about the Book of Barnabas it was stated that the book denies that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and that it denies the literal death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon in fact testifies powerfully of both. Indeed the entire book is a call for men to come unto Christ who is the author of our salvation. It bears record that Jesus Christ is the living son of the living God and that only by Him and through Him can man be saved. It testifies of His birth, His life, His great atoning sacrifice and His resurrection. Finally, it invites all men everywhere to have faith in Him, to repent, to be baptized and to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
In short, from what I can see the two books could not have less in common, so to equate the two seemed incorrect to me.
lol,now I need a new keyboard. Good one.
Doctrine of Demons, my friend. God commands us to test the “spirits” and if they deny that Jesus lived, died in the flesh and rose again as a living human (and God) then they’re liars of the worst kind!
good point: I know these bragadocious Muslims are just liars.
Gee a new ‘gospel’ that supports Islam written at the time that Islam started.
Amazing.

Well, the Romans and the Jewish leaders wanted to find the body pretty bad. They never did.
Yep, they would have to target Paul (especially his teaching on grace). Pharisees didn’t like him much either. He knew them too well.
I remember reading something similar when I was in Saudi in the early nineties. In it, Jesus prophesies that another greater prophet will come after him.
Muslims insist that we translate the scriptures wrong, thats the problem.
The main problem that the Pharisees had with Paul, of course, is that he himself was a former Pharisee. Pharisees like Saul and his father had Roman citizenship from birth, too; privileged class.
“I have a home movie from the time of Jesus that would blow the lid off Christianity.
i have one too! Is yours an mp4? Mine is avi, so it is obviously older and the genuine one.”
Nonsense!
I have the oldest!
8mm (not the neo-canonical Super8) that was transferred to BetaMax!
(On a more serious note: “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.” Rev 22:18-19)
This is about as laughable as Islamic clerics claiming that the Apollo astronauts converted to Islam after hearing the Islamic call to prayer while on the moon.
I have a home movie from the time of Jesus that would blow the lid off Christianity.
The answer to life, the universe and everything appeared on a piece of bread I toasted.
But I was hungy.
So I eated it.
The two books do have some things in common. Under any theory of origin this would be the case. Obviously, if of divine origin, we would expect not only similarities, but perfect internal consistency.
But even if only of human origin, we would expect similarities. Joe Smith’s only Bible was a KJV. He would have had to use it as a resource to draw disciples out of traditional American Christianity.
And there is substantial textual evidence that he did precisely that, plagiarizing noticeable portions of the King James into a book purporting to be much older. Yes, I know the Mormon apologists have developed various schemes to explain this, but as an attorney, and one with a background in the Biblical languages and textual history, I am pretty hard to convince, and so far I havent seen anything yet thats any better than the typical KJV-Only sophistries.
But the real problem is the stories dont line up. The message isnt the same. Again, if Im an attorney looking to prove some new discovered witness testimony is consistent with that same witnesses accepted testimony already in the record, Im going to have a real problem with the BOM. The similarities you cite are a mere skimming of the surface. You use terms you dont define. Peel away the outer skin of those terms and you find vast worlds of difference. See the site below for a table of significant differences:
But my bet is you are not encouraged to look at such sites, or to take them seriously. I understand that. But I am allowed, and these profound differences in who God is, how he acts to save us, who Jesus really is, what really happened on the cross, who really is the Holy Ghost, and on and on, these are differences that cannot be ignored.
Be honest. You know the Bible does not answer those questions even remotely the same way the BOM does. That proves something important. Either God is of a divided mind (Heaven forbid!), or the Bible and the BOM do not come from the same spiritual source.
Ergo, since both books purport to be of divine origin, one of them must be a fraud.
As for me and mine, we will cling bitterly to our Bibles.
“16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
Colossians 1:16-17
The Bible teaches here and in many other places that Jesus created the entire universe (all of the matter of it) out of nothing. That He was the Eternal God before he was human, that He did not attain to perfection, He was always perfect. It is my understanding the lds does not believe thses truths.
LOL!
Calling Tom Hanks!
Hey Hollyweird! I see a possible movie here...What a great way to prove Islam is not evil and Christians are racist Islamo-phobes...why not make a movie?-I mean it’s a true story found on an animal skin in Iran. It goes back to the beginning of time, and finally explains that the entire Bible is wrong....it doesn’t get any better than that!

Hey bro. Hope all is peachy.
Tolerably well.
Church older singles are having a cookout in Bayfield. Trying to make it an outreach to some of the less socially accepted around town. Our church is pretty good about that.
The writing project is slow but prayerful.
God’s best to you this weekend and to all of good heart toward God.
