I think the otherwise valuable article goes asray, however, by identfying this error with Hinduism.
Historic, classic Hinduism is robustly pro-heterosexual: as the phrase goes, they "uphold the gender binary."
(Incidentally, I'm sick of that word "gender.")
Feminist liberal-ladies' massage-parlor yoga is not the same as Hinduism. (Just as a feminist liberal-ladies' massage-parlor nunnery is not the same as Catholicism.) It is often the diametrical opposite.
Thank you for the ping, Mrs! I was just thinking about this last night - hadn’t seen the article, but about Hinduism and homosexuality. You are entirely correct. I was even thinking about finding texts from the Manu Samhita (ancient Vedic book of legal stuff) and finding what it has to say about punishments for homosexuals; I’ve read it before but it would be edifiying to quote. Maybe today I’ll have time. IIRC it was castration and death for men, cutting off a finger and something else for women.
Homosexuality was not only not tolerated or promoted, it was villified and punished. And the treatment and position of women, while definitely not up to (or down to...) western standards, was IMHO excellent. Of course modern corruption has set in everywhere. Women were considered the other of half men - literally; a husband was to consider his wife the other half of his body, and vice versa. He was to protect her as he would protect his own self.
(Re-injured hurty toe last night, crawling around today. Be back later.)
