I read almost all of her books when I went through my Rand stage, but in looking back, I see two major weaknesses in her philosophizing. First, although she claimed to love Aristotle, I see no evidence of his influence on her thought.

She never mentions the Law of Non-contradiction, substance and accident, the Four Causes, Act and Potency, etc. She cites the tautology of “A equals A,” but that’s not the Law of Non-contradiction.

Secondly, she engages heavily in ridicule and hand-waving, which is understandable given the shallowness of her metaphysics.

Completely agree re Rand's heavy-handedness, hence my 2x4 reference.
At that point in my youthful ignorance/arrogance, anything more subtle probably wouldn't have gotten through.
So in that respect AS was a success.

Though convinced there's Something Out There in charge of this whole mess, I'll readily admit to not being much of a religious guy.
And it's been literally decades since college philosophy, assuming that any of it actually sunk in past exam retention depth to begin with ;-)
Hence, several of the terms/phrases you listed are either new to me or have been lost from memory in the mists of advancing years.

Thanks for bringing them up .. will do some non-FR research out of curiosity.
It'll be a welcome break after reading the circular firing squad that the latest FReepathon thread has become.
