Lesbian with kids in Catholic school demands removal of Catechism quote on homosexuality

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, March 16, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A self-proclaimed ‘lesbian’ whose two children attend a Catholic school near Peterborough is demanding that the Peterborough Catholic school board remove a Catechism quote dealing with homosexuality from a school pamphlet. Ann Michelle Tesluk has started an online petition to pressure the board to action and describes her activities as gearing to make the Catholic Church into an “openly gay friendly church.”

The pamphlet in question, however, is controversial from more than one perspective. While quoting the Catechism that the homosexual inclination is “objectively disordered”, the pamphlet also misrepresents Catholic teaching in numerous ways. The pamphlet calls on schools to highlight homosexual role models and familiarize students with terms like “LGBTQQ” and “two-spirited.” It indicates that Canada legalized same-sex “marriage” in 2005 without mentioning that the Church opposes such unions. The heading for the equity pamphlet's section on "homophobia".

Greg Reeves, director of education for the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB), told LifeSiteNews that they have had enough complaints about the pamphlet, called The Colour of Equity, to give the wording a “relook” to see if they can explain the Church’s teaching better.

The trustees voted 6 to 8 last Tuesday against a request to remove the passage, but Nancy Sharpe, the board’s head of communications, said that the pamphlet has been sent for review to the Equity and Inclusive Education committee.

Reeves says the school board felt they needed to include the Catechism passage because they are “under the Magisterium of the Church, the teaching and the authority of the Church.”

“When we were going into the section on orientation, we felt it important that people understand what the Catholic Catechism would say,” he explained.

In her online petition, which has garnered 86 signatures thus far, Tesluk says the Catholic Church’s teachings on homosexuality are “outdated and harmful” and suggests the teachings have exacerbated the problem of teen suicides.

“As it is right now, it is derogatory, patronizing and discriminatory, not to mention lacking in scientific evidence,” she says. “Any child who reads this will be faced, at minimum, with a negative attitude towards homosexuality,” she continues. “Isn’t this what we are trying to prevent? How can we allow any school in Ontario to teach this to our children?”

Reeves said the complaints are largely a result of confusion over the Church’s teaching, saying that the Catechism’s “phraseology is old.”

According to Reeves, by calling the homosexual inclination “objectively disordered,” the Church means that homosexual relationships are disordered. According to Church teaching, he explained, authentic sexual relationships must be both unitive and procreative.

“It’s not the person who’s disordered,” he said. “It’s the concept that the relationship, in the eyes of the Catholic Church in this definition, is disordered.”

But Prof. Scott Nicholson, chair of theology at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, said the Catechism teaching is not about the homosexual relationship per se, but a disorder in the person’s sexual drive.

“It is true that acting on it is disordered,” he explained, “but above and beyond that the inclination itself isn’t something that you’d find in human beings except for original sin.”

“In a fallen world, individuals have various disorders in them that may not be any fault of their own but they remain disordered,” he continued. “Someone born blind, that’s an objective disorder because we’re meant to see, that’s what eyes are for. The sexual drive is meant to be inclined and lead people toward reproduction.”

“If it’s ordered in a particular individual in a way that isn’t inclined towards reproduction then it’s disordered. It’s out of the order for which it’s meant,” he added.

Sharpe said the Equity and Inclusive Education committee will decide whether to remove the language or perhaps explain it, and then make a recommendation to the trustees.

“I know that the language of that passage will have to be explained at the committee meeting because many of us don’t understand it because it was written by theologians,” she said.

Prof. Nicholson noted that the Catechism is not a work of high theology but intended for a “wide audience.” “It’s really intended for every educated, and I’d even go so far as to say semi-educated, Catholic,” he said.

The Church needs to use precise language, he added, to say exactly what it means on issues of importance.

As the province’s Catholic school boards adopted McGuinty’s equity and inclusive education strategy in the last two years, pro-family advocates warned that it would give homosexual activists a foothold to further undermine the effort to impart Catholic sexual teaching.

According to Tesluk, during the six years her children have attended school in the board, she has held various positions on the local school council.

If there’s any prenatal source for feminized males and masculinized females, it will be due to hormonal exposure during critical stages of development, imho, that would only create a potential propensity to that particular behavior, not an absolute orientation.

No one is born “gay.” They’re influenced into the behavior via exposure to it when vulnerable, either due to molestation at a young age, or during a traumatic experience with the opposite sex later, after sexual maturity.

Even those born with sexual birth defects that lead to questionable sexuality should choose one or the other for their own good, and the good of society. This muddle and confusion serves no good purpose, we’ve certainly seen that over the past several decades.

Sounds good to me.

Some Hollywood idiots such as Kathy Griffin have been pushing the gay teen suicide thing. Liberals tend to latch on to a cause and seek media attention. It doesn’t matter if there’s any truth to this alleged epidemic of gay teen suicide, just that they get media attention and sympathy from the liberal media.

I have wondered about some of that. Society has never been more open or “tolerant” or accepting of homosexuality than it is right now. Yet we hear so much of gay kids being bullied, suicides, etc.

How is it that society is so intolerant of gays, bullies gays, drives them to suicide, etc. when society has never been more accepting of gays than it is right now?

Peter prophesied about these false teachers who would use sensuality to bring destructive heresies into the Church out of a motive of greed. (2Pet 2:1-3) He also pronounced some of the harshest invective and condemnation to be found anywhere in the bible against these false teachers. Jude and Paul warned of the exact same thing - with a sense of incredible urgency and seriousness. James warned that those who would presume to preach and teach the word of the Lord were taking on an incredible responsibility and would be held to a higher degree of accountability at the final Judgment.

Brothers and Sisters, we are fast becoming the remnant. Expect to see this corruption of the Church continue and grow as it goes whoring after other gods. We have been warned. Our job is to maintain a faithful Christian witness in the face of an increasingly hostile and relentless attack by the world - it's happened before. In fact, it's generally been the norm. I pray, however, that everyone reading this post remain so steadfast in the face of the oncoming onslaught that the first words they hear when they leave this mortal coil be "Well done true and faithful servant".

If I am not mistaken, in Canada, Catholic schools are funded by the government just like regular public schools...(was that way when we lived there in 1999-2000.) So, THIS could get interesting.

“With that discovery parents of “gay babies” will be able to abort their “gay baby.”

If a gay gene is discovered, will Christians be aborting “gay” babies? “

Homosexuality is a sin. The Bible says that those who practice it (unrepenting) will go to hell.

God doesn’t send people to hell for their genetics.

Therefore, I am certain there is no “gay gene.” They may announce they found one, but it will be poppycock.

Furthermore, it is not Biblical to kill people because you think they are going to commit a crime.

So to suggest a Christian would abort a baby with a gay or any other type gene is ludicrous.

I’m sorry but there is nothing outdated about the Bible.perhaps it is your thoughts and actions that are out of line with the word of G-d?

Why waste time?

Simply bounce the lezzie from the school without comment or notice, just as the lefties would do with an agitator from the right. Let them then fight to regain status, and at each step play dirty, not nice .... as they do.

Only when these h8ters stop their own dirty tricks should we return to treating them with respect. This “take the high road” behavior (such as Boehner does on pretty much EVERY issue) is just a total losing strategy.

Fight, for chissssakes.

“I would not be surprised if Ms. Tesluk enrolled the kids at the Catholic school simply to start this campaign of hers.”

Just as Mz. Fluke enrolled at Georgetown Law to make her point.

In this case, tho, it’s worse, using kids as political pawns. How could ANY parent put their kids in this position?

One would hope that there was some language in the school’s application to which she agreed in writing about its being a Catholic school, and teaches according to the Catholic Church.

No argument there.
However, there ARE sinful Christians. Those sinners MIGHT abort because they are sinners who have no respect for the 5th commandment.
I am not "suggesting" anything but telling you that I think that some people who call themselves Christians would abort an unwanted baby. Their action is wrong, but people STILL sin even if they know they are sinning. We've all seen the figures of American abortions. It would be my GUESS that some of those women/girls DO consider themselves Christians. Am I right?

“Another liberty is widely advocated, namely, liberty of conscience. If by this is meant that everyone may, as he chooses, worship God or not, it is sufficiently refuted by the arguments already adduced. But it may also be taken to mean that every man in the State may follow the will of God and, from a consciousness of duty and free from every obstacle, obey His commands. This, indeed, is true liberty, a liberty worthy of the sons of God, which nobly maintains the dignity of man and is stronger than all violence or wrong - a liberty which the Church has always desired and held most dear. This is the kind of liberty the Apostles claimed for themselves with intrepid constancy, which the apologists of Christianity confirmed by their writings, and which the martyrs in vast numbers consecrated by their blood. And deservedly so; for this Christian liberty bears witness to the absolute and most just dominion of God over man, and to the chief and supreme duty of man toward God. It has nothing in common with a seditious and rebellious mind; and in no title derogates from obedience to public authority; for the right to command and to require obedience exists only so far as it is in accordance with the authority of God, and is within the measure that He has laid down. But when anything is commanded which is plainly at variance with the will of God, there is a wide departure from this divinely constituted order, and at the same time a direct conflict with divine authority; therefore, it is right not to obey.”
~Leo XIII, On Liberty (Libertas), June 20, 1888

I’ve often wondered about the gay suicide thing. Current reasoning says that discrimination towards gays leads to depression and suicide.

What if it’s the other way around? The person has depression and the way it is expressed is through gay behavior just as some depressed people might express it through alcoholism and other addictions.

That’s a fitting quote, since the Vichy Republicans talk a good conservative game but later allow the Democrats to run roughshod over them.

Homosexual teen suicide is another lie created by the left

The fact that homosexual teens commit suicide prompts a question.

What might cause them to commit suicide?

Rejection ... Total rejection ... has it's consequences.

I am sorry to say that, in my experience at a pregnancy center, I can remember at least one painful case of a pro-life girl being sat upon by her “Christian” parents and the baby daddy “youth minister” to abort the evidence of his abuse of authority. She finally caved.

But I have certainly seen far more instances of Christian women/girls carrying on with pregnancies with little to no help or encouragement, even active discouragement from parents/baby daddies/employers, because they could not bring themselves to sin in this way.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There is just no excuse for that! Her good “Christian” Daddy should have taken a shotgun to that “youth minister” and that is what would have happened in the old days! When the church found out that “youth minister” would have been run out of town. I can’t believe how abortion has changed society, how things are covered up, and how the guilty get by with their sins.
