Nobody in the Bible would be likely to talk about "Lent" because the word comes from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning "spring". There aren't any Anglo-Saxons in the Bible (sorry, British Israelism fans).

However, Moses (Ex 34:28), Elijah (1 Kgs 19:8), and Jesus (Matthew 4:2) all conducted 40-day fasts to prepare to do God's work, so the idea of a 40-day period of fasting and repentance to prepare for the commemoration of the Lord's passion, death, and resurrection, and for the discipleship of the year to come seems to rest on pretty solid Biblical grounds.
