Pelosi: ‘I am going to stick with fellow Catholics’ in supporting Obama birth control mandate

February 6, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Even as the United States’ Catholic bishops have launched an all-out campaign against the Obama administration’s birth control mandate and urged their flocks to resistance, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has invoked the support of “fellow Catholics” to justify her position in favor of the mandate.

Pelosi was confronted at last Wednesday’s press briefing by a reporter from CNSnews.com, who began by pointing out that the mandate, which requires all employers to cover all sterilizations and contraception, including drugs that can cause early abortions, forces Catholic individuals and institutions to act against Church teaching.

Irritated, Pelosi, a self-professed devout Catholic, interrupted: “Is this a speech, or do we have a question in disguise as a speech?”

The reporter continued, citing a letter from the U.S. bishops, in which the bishops vowed not to comply with the law, and asked: “will you stand with your fellow Catholics in resisting this law or will you stick by the Administration?”

“First of all, I am going to stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the Administration on this. I think it was a very courageous decision that they made, and I support it,” the minority leader responded.

The comment came as at least 164 Catholic bishops across the country, representing over 90% of the country’s dioceses, have blasted the mandate, in many cases ensuring that letters were read to the faithful during Sunday Mass calling the mandate unconstitutional and unjust.

The question by the CNSnews reporter was not the first time Pelosi has been confronted about the apparent conflict between her political views and her claimed status as a “devout Catholic.”

In an interview with the Washington Post this past November, she acknowledged that many Catholics object to being forced to fund abortions, noting that “they have this conscience thing.”

The former speaker has also said she has “some areas of disagreement” with the country’s bishops, and has claimed that Catholicism does not necessarily condemn abortion.

“fellow Catholics” = pro-abort CINOs
“solutions” “at the price of apostasy”

Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.

The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth.

Hey Nancy, just going around wearing a lace chapel veil hand-made by Irish nuns doesn’t make you a “devout” anything other than a fashion statement. It’s actually believing in all that “conscience” guff and having the guts to say so that makes you a Catholic. You’re not fooling anybody.

Yeah, the Catholic church allowing this to happen over many, many years. She should be excommunicated not just for this, but for her stance on abortion as well.

I say again, it should not be a wonder why the Catholic church has so many problems; they are embroiled in politics too.

Wow.
Satan himself would’ve said the same thing as Pelosi. I’m not saying Pelosi is Satan, but the lies and smarmy responses are of the type. She speaks in a manner that is meant to deceive.

The Catholic leadership needs to come down hard on this, and soon, or risk the right of religious freedom.

I keep reading the phrase, “stick with” as “stick it to”.

I think I’m misreading the words, but getting the context correctly.

Pretty simple deal,
NO one in the Catholic Church of America has the nads to tell the truth about these Marxists who are trying to destroy the country in a secularist way/
No one in that church has the nads to throw the f-ing Kennedys, Pelosi’s Bidens and other baby murderers out of the damn church.
A voice of Religion? The Catholic Church? Get real...

If the Catholic Church doesn't sanction Pelosi, Kerry, and all the other CINO Politicians for their blatant disobedience, then all their talk is nothing more than empty hot air.

They can preach all they want, but until the act, it means nothing. Don't cry to me if you're going to give these ABORTIONISTS your continued political cover and support.

164 Catholic bishops across the country, representing over 90% of the country’s dioceses

why is it not 100% representation?

If Princess Nancy is a Catholic then the Pope is a Druid.

Did you hear Mark Steyn on Rush today? The Muslims are even up in arms over this blatant anti-religious stunt.

Obama may ignore the Catholics, but what do you want to bet that he sure won't ignore the Muslims. They don't sit around and wring their hands when they don't like something, like our Catholic bishops tend to do.

I can't believe all the support we Catholics are getting all around the country from people of all political persuasions. There was even an editorial in the USA Today this morning. I find it a rather odd issue for the bishops to fall on their swords over, but I'm sure glad they are finally waking up!

Obama will probably issue waivers to Muzzies, but not Catholics.

This is why the Catholic Church is in decline. They have let politics get in the way of the courage of their convictions. Its been going on for years. They don’t get it.
