When I was 16 and a typical romantic teenager, the idea of being married for eternity seemed appealing.
However, watching how most LDS husbands treat their wives, I almost came to dread it, but knew it was a requirement for my salvation in Mormonism.
Now, as a Christian, being married to another Christian, the idea of being married, of having THIS same type of relationship doesn’t interest me at all because I know that MrR and I, as believers, will have an even BETTER relationship in the next life, as brother and sister in Christ worshiping together for eternity.
Why would I settle for the Mormon idea when the reality is so much better.
I like what you said on another thread (earlier this week?)...it was something similar to what I thought at one time...which is how Mormons treat this doctrine as if it was 100% unique.
Hey, if husbands and wives live together in a bigger family -- a bigger dwelling called heaven -- they don't need a "ring" with Jesus Christ as the Bridegroom of the Church!
(Besides rings tend to "Fall off" the spirit entities we will be until the resurrection)
This Mormon attitude that eternal family relationships is somehow unique to Mormonism goes along with Dragonblustar's comment just now on such elitism.
The bottom line here is that although there is a separation in store for SOME family members, Christian doctrine simply expands the family...it doesn't negate it!
