FAIR changes Mormon defenders website name
Deseret News ^ | November 21, 2011 | Joseph Walker

"The Mormon Defense League" is out. "MormonVoices" is in.

That change became official Monday, when the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research announced a name change for its website aimed at defending the teachings and practices of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

FAIR is a non-profit organization that, according to a press release, is operated by "self-motivated Mormons who seek to improve the public understanding about the church" through conferences, workshops and scholarly articles posted on the organization's websites. While it is dedicated to "providing well-documented answers to criticisms of the doctrine, beliefs and practices" of the LDS Church, it is not owned, controlled by or affiliated with the church.

“The new website was launched as part of an effort to monitor news reports in search of errors and misrepresentation. ‘If somebody writes something — whether a journalist or even a politician — that is egregiously bad, we will correct them,’ Gordon said in August”

Errors and misrepresentations? Couldn’t happen here on FR . . . could it?

Isn’t FAIR that group that threatened to ‘destroy’ FR because we have a few outspoken anti-LDS posters?

“According to Gordon, anyone can go to the new website to get ‘accurate information about issues regarding The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.’ The site will feature ‘corrections regarding common misconceptions are provided, along with a ‘FactCheck’ service for writers and others who want to verify the accuracy of information regarding the Church, its doctrines, teachings or history.’”

Don’t know anything about that. But “a few outspoken anti-LDS posters”? I call them the dog pile.

Did Greg West join FAIR? "Official" with who? They can change their name, but they can't change their (lack of) ability to speak with any semblence of authority. Did anyone else notice that their disclaimer (documenting their lack of sanctioning, blessing, and affiliation) appears in larger print here on FR, than it does at the bottom of their own home page?

FAIR is not owned, controlled by, or affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All research and opinions provided on this site are the sole responsibility of FAIR and should not be interpreted as official statements of LDS doctrine, belief, or practice.

Mormonism cannot be defended, So the name is a misnomer!

Heck, you can’t even come clean about which Christ you believe in: the Mormon created Christ or the Christian Christ who is eternal God?

supportive of, but not controlled by or affiliated with, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

If I was interested in learning more about Roman Catholicism I'd to to a Vatican sponsored site. I would have thought that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would have similar church sponsored sites.

A much more interesting website is:

http://www.exmormon.org/

There are many resources exposing the cult control and false teachings of mormonism.
Real stories from REAL Ex-mormons.

They don't want to be bothered with it. Literally. Note who's not mentioned in the below - FAIR or "MormonVoices":

"Church Headquarters has been receiving an increased amount of correspondence from its members about doctrinal issues. Because of this influx of correspondence, the First Presidency reminded and encouraged LDS church members to utilize their local church authorities – bishops, branch presidents, stake presidents, etc — before resorting to contacting Church Headquarters.” In other words, the Mormon laity was told to quit bothering their church leadership on issues related to doctrine."
-- from the thread Quit pestering us, church leaders tell membership in letter

Saundra, since you say you used to attend a Christian Church before you joined mormonism, here is a great link that shows the contradictions of mormonism:

What a poor excuse for a Mormon you are. And what a big loser you are. No class, no style and no substance. And you're so stupid you just keep trying. What a joke!

Calling star Kolob.....calling star Kolob.....

Come in, Kolob....we would speak unto Elohim, ruler of this galaxy and begetter of countless spirit children.

He the god of flesh and bones who confronted the virgin Mary as Mohammed confronted his child-bride Aisha.

And what about all those Jewish Indians who wiped out the “white & delightsome” Nephites, leaving not so much as a trace?

And JS’s “seer stones in a hat”. From reformed Egyptian directly to English, no computer translators necessary.

Let’s not forget what he said about “the great and abominable church and whore of Babylon.” That’s us Catholics, isn’t it?

;^)
