“In other words: Only the elect are predestined for salvation, so don’t share the gospel, since most are predestined to hell, and those predestined for heaven, will find salvation anyway.”

Sounds like a logical conclusion from the 5-point doctrine.

I guess that why my dad (55 years conservative, fundamentalist SBC preacher who dabbled with being a 5-pointer for a while early on)jokingly says that calvinism is a perfect theology for lazy preachers, no need to visit, no need to evangelize, no need for missions...God will take care of them...or not.

Not really. True calvinism would say obey God in all things, but it can certainly be twisted to other ends as is any theology.

God commands believers to reach out because God works through the believer to reach the unbeliever.

This story is a case in point...Calvinists who are reaching out to the needy, many of whom presumably are unbelievers.

Not logical at all!

It is not only the end that is predestined, but also the means, see Romans 10.

The elect are saved by hearing the preaching of the Gospel. The elect who are saved by the pre-determined means then obey their Lord and Saviour by preaching the Gospel.

Many of the greatest missionaries/Gospel preachers have been Calvinists, eg William Carey, Charles Spurgeon, George Whitefield, Johnathan Edwards, etc.
