The Romney campaign and its surrogates, ( including some on FR) are using the comment of a Christian pastor against Rick Perry and anyone else who mentions mormonism. It was done in '08 against Huckabee.
The issue of why Christians do not see mormonism as Christian is front and center.
There was a comment posted recently here featuring the mormon hymn "Praise to the Man" (Joseph Smith) and I recalled that while I was a member of the mormon church singing hymns many time whose subject was NOT God or Christ Another in particular lauded the pioneer trek across the plains..."Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel".
Compare the LDS hymbook with that of any Christian congregations hymnbook for an awakening regarding who/what is worshipped in mormon services. We find many laudatory hymns for Joseph Smith, Zion, Latter-day Saints, etc...
..
Mormonism is self-centered...not CHRIST-CENTERED!

Disclaimer: I am former LDS and "anti" mormonism. I post articles from official mormon sources among others, that often relate to current discussions taking place on the forum to provide a means for open discussion in the Religion forum.
FROM THE RELIGION FORUM MODERATOR:
Open threads are a town square. Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected
Posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down others beliefs. They may ridicule. On all threads, but particularly open threads, posters must never make it personal. Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of making it personal. Making a thread about another Freeper is making it personal.
When in doubt, review your use of the pronoun you before hitting enter.
Like the Smoky Backroom, the conversation may be offensive to some.
Thin-skinned posters will be booted from open threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

Thin-skinned (emotional, whiney or mercurial temper) posters are the disruptors on open threads.

SHOULD CHRISTIANS ASSENT TO MORMON DEMANDS TO SEE THEM AS CHRISTIANS? If mormons demand to see me as a Christian, I have no problem with that.

The established Mormon view of Christians is that we are “gentiles” and our Churches are “abominations”, yet they insist that we view them fellow Christians and not “gentiles” in any way shape or form.
But Mormons must be used to cognitive dissonance.

It’s funny that people are so concerned with whether Mitt Romney is a Christian, that they seem to forget that he is not a Conservative.

Probably not any more than to concede that Russellite doctrines on the nature of God and Jesus are Christian.

There is enough to dislike about Mitt Romney without bringing his religion into it. Discussing the religion of the candidates only serves to discredit the conservative movement in the eyes of the rest of the voters.
It actually gives Mitt Romney an excuse to disregard pressures from the conservative right.

Demand? Hardly greyfoxx39. I cannot demand anyone "believe" anything when it comes to matters of faith. If others "demand" such thing, in my own estimation, they err.
I can only state my own witness for Christ and let others decide for themselves.
But only One shall Judge, and He is my Savior, Jesus Christ...who knows the heart and is mighty to save. I gladly leave it in His Just, Merciful, and loving Hands, for His atonement and it alone saves...irrespective of what others my think or believe of me and my own witness.
As for me, IMHO, anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and Him crucified...and who knows that His gospel and the fundamental moral principles He taught are the bedrock foundation of our republic and our Liberty is my ally...even if they naysay my own faith. I will not naysay their faith in Jesus Christ because that collective faith is what will allow us to restore this Republic. We should be allies in this fight, and I do all I can to reach out and work with others accordingly. Anyone who knows my history and my involvement in numerous activities on behalf of liberty knows this is true.
Again, I thank all who have prayed for and joined their faith with my own and that of my family in my recent health crisis with cancer. The prayers of the faithful...a large portion of which are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were effecive and instrumentaal in my life and I humbly thank all who exerted their prayers and faith on my behalf.
Not looking for a quarrel, as you well know, just leaving my own witness.

There are a LOT of reasons to vote against Mitt Romney.
His Mormonism is not one of them, for me.
To: greyfoxx39; All
The issue of why Christians do not see mormonism as Christian is front and center. From an identity angle (counterfeit)...
...from an association angle...
...from a belief angle...
...any mainstream Mormon should be able to understand this.
After all, how many mainstream Mormons want the world to associate fundamentalist polygamist Mormons with them?
Note the tremendous arms-length distancing Mainstream Mormons do. Note the "myths" they try to address.
Well, the same thing happens around the world. Christian missionaries work generations in an area to pray to the Holy Spirit that the people groups there become receptive to the Bible-based Christian gospel.
Then, what typically happens? The cults, the Jehovah's Witnesses & the Mormons, swoop into that area, take advantage of the good-will built up by those Christian missionaries...yet the JWs and Lds missionaries don't usually highlight the major distinctives and embarrassing things they have embraced as part of the cultic JW & Mormon "gospel" versions.
