News to me, too. Although—Peruvian friends of mine have a magnificent painting of Mary in similar costume & halo. They never referred to it as anything but Our Blessed Mother. Then again, most older depictions of Mary in South America seem to be in such Infant-of-Prague regalia.

Daily processions pass along the lake roads carrying a replica of their Bolivian Queen of Heaven as she blesses the boats offshore. The original statue never leaves the basilica, for there is a popular legend that "Our Lady does not want to be outside," and when they disturb her "violent storms will occur."

This obviously ain't no ordinary idol...This one blesses boats and will create violent weather if someone, against its wishes, carries it outside...

This is certainly no depiction of Jesus' mother, Mary...

Very new. I never heard of this story? Copacabana. All I can think of is the Club. LOL! The title sounds like saturday night live skeet. Just a strange title.
