On August 26, Pastor Lutzer had the privilege of baptizing ten Muslims who, over a period of time, came to accept Christ as Savior through the Iranian ministry at Moody Church. Friends of these converts wept as they rejoiced in the power of Christ to transform those who had been brought up in another religion, proving that the Gospel is for all the people of the world. A few of their testimonies are given below.
I was born in Tehran, Iran in 1974. I came to the U.S. in 1994. After a year in this country, my sister-in-law introduced me to a friend who was having a Bible study, which I began to attend. Later, I attended another Bible study taught by an American woman named Bonnie, and I also began to attend Moody Church.
At work I met an Iranian friend, Jamie. She told me she respected my religion, but asked me to read the Bible and it would give me peace. I tried reading the Bible, but after two pages, threw it away. Later I began reading the New Testament, up to ten pages a day. Then, on April 23rd, 2001, I accepted Christ as my Savior, and my life was changed. Nothing is the same for me.
I was born in Iran 39 years ago. Seven years ago, I was the first one in my family that God chose to be His daughter and bless with His love. The process began when an American woman, Ann, invited me to a Bible study, taught in Farsi, my language. I attended and soon after, accepted Christ as my Savior in a friends home in Winnetka.
I am 60 years old, born in Iran and came to this country two years ago to live with my daughter. Because she attended church, I went along with her. People would ask me why I would go to church, since I was a Muslim and could not understand what was being said. But something was drawing me there.
My daughter told me there was an Iranian church starting at the Moody Church in Chicago. I was happy, because at last I would understand what was being said. I had many questions about the Koran and the Bible, and I had those questions answered. The teaching of the Bible brought tears to my eyes and soon, I wanted to become a Christian. So I have come to love Jesus and the teachings of the Bible.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4, NIV
Preaching The Gospel does make a difference. :-)
