please console yourself with this thought -

the “black sheep dog” thinks all this publicity will only drive his book sales higher, which means greater profits for him, which means he can now afford more hookers, real estate and drugs, which means he will be a very happy man.

therefore if the “black sheep dog” is happy, all his fans should be happy. isn’t the world grand??

Corapi food fight, du jour.

For anyone who hasn't already had enough of this train wreck of a scandal, Jimmy Akin has the full text of Fr. Corapi's lawsuit against his accuser.

Corapi was never a draw to me, he had nothing to teach me(I dont need basic-advanced catechesis) and his presentation voice seemed contrived. I’m an ‘Al Kresta Man’ for many years. How the faith intersects with culture, politics and the clash of philosophies.

Yes, after all, you finally showed your TRUE colors. Yes indeed, Mr. Crapi. You might be ordained for life, but at least the Church got rid of a megalomaniac celebrant. No wonder you are linking to the “Huffington Post” among other things, liberal that you are, hypocrite, pathological liar, self-absorbed SOB. Good riddance!

knowledge of guilt

Possibly so, but also possible is that he was not given the timeline when the accusation is formulated and he can confront it, -- just as Fr. Corapi himself stated. In other words, gathering evidence, when interminable, is not due process.

all this publicity will only drive his book sales higher [...] he can now afford more hookers, real estate and drugs

It is indeed the hopeful side of it, but why do you accuse him of hookers and drug use? On an anonymous board? Get lost, -- your behavior is dishonorable.

Regarding his voice, anyone else reminded of Jesse Ventura when Corapi talks? I've sometimes wondered how much their deep, gravelly voices contributed to giving both perhaps a greater sense of weight, of gravitas if you will, to themselves and whatever they are saying.

Interestingly both served in special forces. Or rather in Corapi's case he claimed to be on his way to being a Green Beret before an injury sidelined him to a desk job.

Speaking of which, something that puzzled me for a while is now starting to make sense. Why did Corapi have bodyguards? I'd read about this and it seemed strange that a priest would feel he needed such protection. Then i heard Corapi say that he feared the forces of the Enemy, that Satan is looking to take down any powerful voice that opposes him (or words to that effect), and after seeing his interview with Fr Pacwa i attributed the bodyguards and the sleepless, fearful nights to paranoia (especially in light of him having spent time in a mental hospital as a young man).

Now though, after reading more about his military exaggerations and seeing how some had been pursuing the matter (Corapi military) i think his fears may have had a more earthly source - instead of an attack from Satan and one of his minions perhaps he really feared a retired Green Beret looking to take him to task for pretending to be one of them.

Which leads to another thought. In recent years Corapi has had a lot of mysterious health problems. In light of what we now know or at least suspect, which puts many of his personal anecdotes into question, it is at least conceivable that Corapi was using these mysterious illnesses as a way to quiet down questions about his military past which were starting to come up more and more. In other words, who is going to aggressively pursue such a story about someone that is apparently suffering through and seeking treatment for what could be a fatal illness? Perhaps he was just using the sickness (if he was even sick at all) as a way to lay low for a while, which he did by suspending his public appearances (conferences and the like) for quite some time.

99% of the replies that are directed to me are worthless drivel. Yours isn’t. Most people want to be heard, I usually dont. May I suggest that a return to a cocaine habit, can lead to health problems, paranoia, lies, drink, other drugs and certainly the influence of Satan. Corapi has a history of lies and drug problems subsequent to the priesthood and it seems during it. His alias also used by his father of ‘Coradi’.

I figure Corapi will be back at SOLT.
When he’s out of money with nowhere to go, if that day ever occurs.

You're right about that, cocaine is probably at the root of his problems. Hard to give it up even if one sincerely wants to do so. And i would like to think that Corapi at least early on was sincere in his desire to go straight and to be a good priest. It's hard to say though. It'd be interesting to see when he first began stretching the truth about his military career. That to me would be a good indicator of around the time he started losing his way again. If however he was telling tall tales about being a Green Beret (or very nearly being one) from the start....

As to returning to SOLT some day, i would be shocked. He seems to be intent on burning bridges.

I am reminded of "The Face in the Crowd" when i think of his meteoric rise and fall. I could see it playing out in a similar way too - at the end of the movie (should i put a spoiler alert here? lol) the Andy Griffith character has been exposed as a fraud, loses his tv show, loses his girlfriend, everything, but he still thinks he can use his charm to win the public back. And the Walter Matthau character (his nemesis) reflects that maybe he can indeed do so in a year or two, after some people start to forgive or at least forget, but it won't be the same, he'll never have the power and influence he once had. I think Corapi is looking to go down that road. Could still have a following, could create something of a cult around himself of diehard followers, but certainly nothing like what he once had. But i think it'd be enough for him to avoid having to go crawling back to SOLT.

For what it's worth i am also reminded of the old Greek saying about how you can't judge whether a man has lived a happy/good life until the very end. How differently Corapi would have been remembered (and even revered) if he had passed away a few years ago. Some, i have no doubt, would even be pushing him for sainthood by now. Instead, it all falls down around him. His whole life, his whole priesthood, is thrown into an entirely different light.

I’m not Catholic, although I’ve enjoyed many Catholic events and masses.

I am rooting for Corapi. He has more testosterone than the church is accustomed to.
