I learned a great deal from him then, and so I find what follows a very sad story. I pray for him that the Lord will deliver him from the serious errors into which he has fallen.

I started listening to some of Mr. Camping's broadcast in the late 1990s -- I missed the 1994 'fun', but would oft hear references to it from some of his callers into the Open Forum show. I thought it was mean for these callers to 'rub it in', but I also thought it odd, or prideful, that Mr. Camping never repudiated, or openly repented of his earlier mistake (often saying that his book, "1994?", had a question mark on it -- so it was therefore OK for him to have prophesied falsely)...
Then came late 2001 and Mr. Camping came up with his 'End of the Church Age' theory... I then realized that Mr. Camping never repudiated his 1994 error, because he never admitted the error. 1994 wasn't the end of the world -- it was the end of the Church Age... I see....

I haven't listened to him since. I agree with some of the other posters. Sadly he got caught up with his own pride (a stickler for all of us) and numerology.
Pray for him. He means well, he unfortunately got caught up the lure of pride.

Gamecock:

Thanks for the ping. Classy of you. Since I started an earlier thread on this issue last Friday and made frequent comments in that thread, I will respect the discussion taking place here among the Protestant FR’s and stay out it and just lurk and read the various comments and perspectives.

Regards and again, thanks for the ping.

“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father”

Someone pointed this out to him on his call in program. He simply said, but we can know the month and year. I do like their gospel music, but when he comes on, I turn it off.

While I'm eating birthday cake, he'll be eating humble pie.

More than likely, he will be calculating a new day. Happy birthday.

I never heard him speak but checked to see his age. Harold Egbert Camping (born July 19, 1921). He'll be 90 years in July!

Is it possible he's gone senile?

Listening to his show and seeing his wardrobe, I'm guessing he uses a slide rule.

“Eventually he started getting into sort of a numerology. It went something like this:”

Ever heard of Gematria?

I hope brother Harold is saved.

I don't know, that is up to YHvH.

I'm familiar with Ussher and Bullinger but
Camping's view does not compute.

In addition since YHvH has in the past chosen
His Feast Days for watershed events,
it would seem that it would continue.
