Pope Benedict XVI is to make history by becoming the first pontiff to take part in a question/answer session for TV.
He will respond to queries put by viewers for a religious programme, and the pre-recorded session will then be screened on Italian TV on Good Friday.
The show is called 'In His Image' and is broadcast on the main channel of state broadcaster Rai, regularly attracting more than seven million viewers.
The topic of the show will be Jesus Christ and three questions will have been picked from those sent in by viewers and it will be recorded by a team from Vatican television the day before broadcast.
Pope Benedict has written two books on the life of Christ - the latest is published later this week - and details were revealed earlier this month with the most significant detail being his insistence that Jews were not responsible for Jesus's death.
The programme is hosted by Rosario Carello, 37, who said: 'Later this week we will open a section on our website for people to send in their questions for the Holy Father.
'We will then pick three and put them to the Pope and his answers will be recorded and then broadcast on the Good Friday programme. It is very exciting and we were delighted when we initially asked and got a positive feedback.
'The Pope was delighted with the idea and thought it was a good opportunity to get across just who exactly the figure of Jesus Christ is. The show lasts 80 minutes but I'm not sure yet how much will be taken up with the Pope's segment.
'The fact that it is being broadcast on Good Friday is also highly significant and will give people a chance to reflect on the importance of the day and remember the death of Christ.'

'fraid to do live TV. Gotta censure the calls I see.
That's because he knows he's talking to a bunch of goobers who don't even know the difference between the words "censure" and "censor."
Any word on Godzilla becoming Cathoic I hear that rumor on Deadline Hollywood
lol. Exactly.
Go to Washington sometime and try to get into a White House press conference so you can ask the Bamster your questions. You won't get very far. (And Zero isn't unique in that; it's always been that way.)
I agree. He's just another politician with a political agenda using political tactics and methods.
