I live about 45 minutes from Salt Lake City, and have had the opportunity to visit Temple Sqaure quite often (No I’m not LDS). While trying to get too far off the topic, to me, the most peculiar thing about the LDS Temple in salt Lake are all of the Symbols that adorn the outside of it.
At the base of the Temple, there are moon stones, which show the moon in its several phases in a 30 day period. Proceeding upward, (Can’t remember the exact order) there are Sun Stones, Saturn Stones, and Stars. Of particular interest are the inverted Pentagrams which are above the main doors into the Temple. Also, if memory serves, Ursa Major (the “Big Dipper”) is found on the east face of the Temple.
It always struck me as odd that this Temple is adorned with whay many would consider occultic symbols, but yet no symbol that commonly represents our Lord can be found (i.e. cross, fish, lamb etc.). I’m certainly not ascribing any negativitiy concerning this to any Latter Day Saint...they are not responsible for a structure that was completed in 1892.
