Yup, ask any incarcerated thug and he will tell ya, he’s going to heaven because as long as he believes in God, he’s going to heaven no matter what sins he commits. They will tell you as long as they pray and ask for forgiveness all will be well because by nature they are sinners from the getgo and God will forgive all sinners. Trust me, many of them believe this to be true.
That’s great. I’d be surprised that many of them really believe that.
If they truly have faith in God, they will in fact be forgiven. That is what God promised.
If they truly have faith in God, that faith should eventually manifest itself in works.
If they sin having accepted Jesus, they will still go to heaven. But that sin may very well cause God to open a can of chastisement on them. Which may very well explain why they are in prison in the first place.
God loves thugs. Jesus didn’t come to save the righteous, they have no need. Jesus came to save the lost.

The New Testament scripture says that we are not saved by works. All have sinned and no one can earn their way to Heaven. Nor are we saved by faith alone; even the demons believe, but they are not saved. Good works (belief, repentance, confession of faith, baptism, lifelong faithful service) are evidence of a saving faith.
