But he was not a “Roman Catholic.” His views were probably closer to mine than to modern Romanists, or at least as close.

Augustine was of great moral character after his conversion insofar as he followed the teachings of Scripture, and attempted to pattern his life after what is written there. The Bible gives us an objective standard for faith and practice.

The Bible does not teach that you can abandon your wife and children, flee the justified discipline of the church, and then seek shelter in a denominations that permits “annulments” for any and every reason. I have to think that Augustine would be horrified.
