Do you think John Allen went to far? [Catholic Caucus]

Posted on 11/04/2010 2:35:58 PM PDT by Pope Pius XII

Folks, I think John Allen crossed over the line when he called conservative Catholic bloggers "the Catholic Taliban." I used to think he was pretty fair when it came to his reporting. But now, I'm having a change of heart. What do faithful Catholics on here think?

Well, I can assure you that I’m not doing any such things as John Allen claims. Personally, I’m offended at what he said.

Contradiction in terms. Can’t be Catholic AND a mohammedan. And only mohammedans can be in the taliban. However, silly men such as John Allen can still give weasels a bad name, can’t they?

John Allen has always been nothing but a pernicious, persistent evil, seeking anyway he could find to undermine the Catholic Church, pervert its teachings. As Rome has gradually asserted itself to America (Burke, etc.). Allen has lost credibility among the faithful and found himself preaching more and more to his heretical choir, making up for losing audience among the faithful by attracting attention among the hysterical.

I am going to start a blog up: http://catholic-taliban.blogspot.com — don’t know what I’ll post, but there will, at least, be a Catholic Taliban!

Eight years ago, several of us involved in fighting the rot locally made up T-shirts that said "Proud Member of the Catholic Taliban," after having been branded such by a clinical psychologist screening seminarians for this diocese. See the August/September 2002 edition of Christian Order magazine, Review Article: GOODBYE! GOOD MEN: How Catholic Seminaries Turned Away Two Generations of Vocations From the Priesthood

Excerpt:

Representative of the outlook of these veritable anti-Apostles is Bishop Joseph Adamec of the small Altoona-Johnstown Diocese. Immediately following the cosy April summit in Rome, he twisted teaching in the Catechism to rationalise his acceptance of homosexual seminarians - insisting that celibacy, not "sexual orientation," is the important factor. The liberal psychologist he uses to assess his seminary candidates also chipped in to decry Goodbye! Good Men, in which he is mentioned, insisting that "ultra" right-wing Catholics are trying to scapegoat homosexuals in a McCarthyite way and referring to them as "the Catholic Taliban"! What is that if not the sneering propaganda of a neo-Modernist totalitarian desperate to protect the decadent and rotten fruits of the post-conciliar revolution?

So John Allen can't take credit for coining this phrase. But our little group of rabble-rousers might be able to lay claim to being the first group so maligned.

When Michael Rose came here to give a talk on his book back then, we ceremoniously gifted him with a "Proud Member of the Catholic Taliban" T-Shirt.

John Allen gets paid for his opinions, bloggers offer their opinions freely... is it any wonder he’s freaked out? If I didn’t have such a massive head cold right now I’d be a bit more subtle about it, but the bottom line is his bottom line is at risk. I guess it sucks to be a dinosaur when lunch learns how to fight back.
