So the angel knew that we’d be a Republic in 1777? Not a parliamentary form of government, or some other form of representational democracy?

That is the thing I find weird about this. Not that Washington may have seen angels, but that the angels address him as ‘son of the republic’ instead of ‘child of God’ or ‘son of Christ’ etc. It’s almost an insult.

If an angel stands before me I pray right now that it calls me ‘Disciple of the Christ’ and nothing else.

I would find that being called a “Son of a God Fearing Republic” to be an honor.

I noticed it too —and for this reason have filed it under
folk myth. It is a nice story -but elements of surreal keep
it from being embraced as truth.
