Disaffected Lutherans Constitute New Body
The Christian Post ^ | August 28, 2010 | Audrey Barrick

Conservative Lutherans began forging the new body just weeks after the ELCA gave the green light in 2009 for non-celibate gays and lesbians to serve as clergy. Over the last year, hundreds of congregations have moved toward severing ties with the ELCA, which is the largest Lutheran denomination in the country with 4.5 million members.

The ELCA experienced its biggest-ever drop in membership last year, with 90,000 less members than the year before.

The vote on Friday to forge a new body took place during the annual Convocation of Lutheran CORE, a renewal group that seeks the renewal of Lutheran churches according to Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

Lutheran CORE leaders have said that the problems in the ELCA are not about sexual behavior but rather about an ongoing movement away from the authority and teaching of the Bible throughout the ELCA. But they have noted that the vote on sexuality "opened the eyes of many to how far the ELCA has moved from Biblical teaching."

Representatives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus – which are the second and third largest Lutheran churches in the world – attended the convocation and showed their support for the new body.

God bless all of them and good luck. You folks will always be welcome in my Baptist Church!

Disaffected Lutherans Constitute New Body

While the Lutherans who remained might need to have their bodies disinfected.

THe ELCA has gone off the tracks and I hope that it collapses of the stench of it’s own diversity.

Left for the Missouri Synod a few years ago

This happened with the Presbyterian Church back in the 1980s. Broken off from the main body for the same reasons is the much more conservative First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, which we go to. Been going there for eight years now, and give them high marks for not bending to the Progressive movement.

Of a list of 45 Communist Goals:

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

If you know their plans (Communist Goals), their strategy (The Frankfurt School) and their tactics (Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky) you can watch it unfold like the plot in a movie.

The directory is updated every week. If the congregation is not there it is not ELCA

Besides that, if a Lutheran parish has a website, and it is part of the ELCA, it usually proudly posts that fact (compete with the ELCA logo) on the website.

Since it is becoming less and less a point of pride to be part of the ELCA (except for the most “progressive” parishes), that might change, however. Use the ELCA “find a congregation” directory.

Our Orthodox parish got itself a new Catechumen last Sunday, with three more expected this Sunday. The latter three (a father with his two little girls—his wife is more hesitant) came from an ELCA parish that was going entirely wacko, with “gays” and dance liturgies.

Glory to God for all things!!!!

Our parish had a ELCA family of four start coming about 8 months ago. They have been chrismated and are now very active members of our Orthodox parish and a blessing to us. The wife’s brother is an ELCA priest out on the West Coast somewhere. I guess her family has basically written her and her children out of the book of life! Shame to cut off one’s own in order to embrace homosexuality as an acceptable life style among Christians!

Good, Kolo!

If you want to go back to 2009, there is a former Missouri Synod pastor and his former ELCA wife who had been chrismated in 2008 (after I was), together with their three young children, in a Greek parish in a distant state. They moved to our area and joined our OCA parish. Then in 2010 they had a fourth child who was baptized in June. We also had three other baptisms this year.

The new man who was received as a catechumen last Sunday had recently married an Orthodox lass, who joined our parish.

That’s just our OCA parish. Our large Serbian parish keeps growing by leaps and bounds, mainly via adding Serbian immigrants. There are quite a few Chrismations of non-ethnic Serbs elsewhere in our Serbian diocese, but not in our mainly immigrant parish.

Meanwhile, the members of my former ELCA parish mainly complacently continue to drink the “progressive” Kool-Aid, not realizing the disaster that has engulfed them. I continue to pray for them, and will show up there for a memorial service next week (before our SerbFest).

Have a joyous feast tomorrow, Kolo!

Good to hear! I hope that they have all the blessings of Christ!

I rode a similar road myself. Best decision I ever made.
