Five Rosary sisters make perpetual vows in Jordan

The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem witnessed five religious sisters’ profession of perpetual vows at a church in Jordan last Sunday. He told them their vows were the result of a “long love story” between them and God.

The profession of the five sisters of the Congregation of the Rosary took place during a Mass at the Visitation Church in Dabuq, Jordan.

His Beatitude Patriarch Fouad Twal delivered a homily on the occasion. He told the sisters that the Holy Cross was the reason to spread God’s love to His children.

“The cross is a result of the endless divine love, and consecrating oneself to God through the vows is a result of a long love story between God and the sister,” he said.

After the Mass, participants exchanged congratulations.

The sisters chose the Feast of the Assumption as the date of their profession because it was a date that they will never forget, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem reports. The names of the professed sisters are Gretta Qazi, Miriam Sa’ad, Nabila Saleh, Loren Imad and Mira Kasabreh.

The Latin Patriarchate called the event “a great occasion for the church of Jerusalem.”

“In a time of modern technology, (a) time of the internet with its chaotic life, the five sisters have chosen to follow Christ, as the apostles did and the other women, with the Virgin Mary in first position, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary,” the patriarchate said.

The Rosary Congregation was established in Jerusalem in the year 1880 by Mother Marie Alphonsine from Jerusalem and Fr. Yousef Tannous from Nazareth, Chancellor of the Latin Patriarchate, assisted by the then Patriarch Vincent Bracco.

The Objectives of the Congregation are :

To serve the public through the development of schools and cultural centers .
To serve the public in through the establishment/development of hospitals .
To open Centers for the teaching of tailoring and needle work.

The Congregation has its doctrinal regulations which are binding to its members in addition to the three vows which are :

  The Vow of Chastity,
  The Vow of Poverty, and
  The Vow of Obedience.

With these vows the members pledge to be consecrated in full devotion to God and service of the people.

The Rosary Congregation has been established for service in the Arab Countries only. Over the decades, the Congregation has grown and prospered and now has branches in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Rome, Egypt, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
