[CATHOLIC CAUCUS] The Assumption of Mary [from Hallowed Ground}
Hallowed Ground ^ | 8-15-10 | Ken Mascoli

The AssumptionAssumption ProclamationAssumption ProclamationWe rejoice greatly that this solemn event falls, according to the design of God’s providence, during this Holy Year, so that we are able, while the great Jubilee is being observed, to adorn the brow of God’s Virgin Mother with this brilliant gem, and to leave a monument more enduring than bronze of our own most fervent love for the Mother of God. For which reason, after we have poured forth prayers of supplication again and again to God, and have invoked the light of the Spirit of Truth, for the glory of Almighty God who has lavished his special affection upon the Virgin Mary, for the honor of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages and the Victor over sin and death, for the increase of the glory of that same august Mother, and for the joy and exultation of the entire Church; by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.

Hence if anyone, which God forbid, should dare willfully to deny or to call into doubt that which we have defined, let him know that he has fallen away completely from the divine and Catholic Faith. (Pius XII Munificentissimus Deus)

Outstanding blog ... Stop by for a visit!
"Always pray for Pope Benedict XVI. Benedict has put “traditionalism” back into the life of the Church. When I came back to the Church about 5 years ago, it was due in no small part to the Latin Mass. He has taken the Ancient Liturgy from the fringes, and put it back into the Heart of the Church where it belongs. He has given the Church a new, lively step as of late, and things seem like they’re picking up" --Ken Mascoli, Hallowed Ground, 12-8-08.

If only we heard this more often from our priests. The Faith is life and death. I especially love the phrase “the divine and Catholic Faith.”

Thanks for a great, informative post.

After Mass last evening I was meditating on the Virgin Mary's appearances in Medjugorje and considering why she graces us with her appearances and messages of hope. I thought of how Christ elevated women and treated them as equals to men in so many ways. I considered the legends of how He traveled as a young man with his uncle, Joseph, on the trading caravans to the Far East and while traveling would stop and speak at the Jewish temples along the way. I remember specifically that these legends spoke of documentation of Jesus's teachings that outlined His respect for women as vessels of life.

And so it is with some clarity that I understand why Mary, whether sent by God or of her own Sacred volition, would warn us of the "great lie". I believe that Islam is the "great lie" and that its abuse of women is an abomination in the eyes of God and a source of anguish in the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In my own simple mind I have constructed the reason why Mary, a human yet connected to the Heart of God Himself, would in her unique and graceful way would be the one to a final stand between mankind and anything anti Christ...because Mary is the ultimate servant of God and represents the Sacred role that women, as child-bearers and nurturers, have been given in the propagation of God's Love.

I had not thought of it in quite that way; I think you are really on to something there. I always tell people there is a reason Christ came during that era: it was a message about how women are to participate in the Church. We are to be Marys and Marthas for God, not priests. When they splutter that that’s not enough of a role for women in the Church, I remind them of how much joy all the Marys and Martha brought to Christ’s life here on Earth. Who could ask for more!?!

I would love to read a collection of all the legends about the Holy Family and the early Church. Do you know of any books that have compiled the anecdotes and legends from from the saints’ visions and other historical writings?

The two books I own on apparitions of Mary are Encountering Mary by Zimdars-Swartz and The Final Hour by Brown. I once lent The Final Hour to a young mother that I met while my daughter was in dance class. She was so moved by the book that she recorded herself reading it so that her poorly-sighted mother could listen to it.

The stories about the travels of young Jesus I heard on late-night radio many years ago and I really regret not writing down the man's name.

Interesting. I can get The Final Hour used on Amazon for a few dollars. I will try it.

I did a web search for “Jesus travel with uncle” and found this site: http://www.greatdreams.com/jesus2.htm. It had some interesting theories that Christ was traveling with his uncle after Joseph died. It mentions two books: Traditions of Glastonbury, by E. Raymond Capt, and Did Our Lord Visit Britain, by C.C. Dobson. I wonder if they could have been the subject of the radio show you heard. Do they sound familiar?

Funny, all the years I read about Christianity in Britain and how Joseph of Arimathea was the one who brought the Grail to the island, I had never read before about Christ visiting Britain. The man who spoke on late night talked about the Jewish temples that were scattered along the trade route to the Far East and how Jesus taught along the way. There are supposedly records of His teachings and it was from these records that Christ's preachings about the reverent treatment of women became known.

The late night radio stories were more in line with a book I read a long time ago that suggested that young Jesus actually became known as a Buddha. I think my mother still has the book. I'll have to ask her for the title
