Jesus & Women
Are Women Human? ^ | Dorothy Sayers

Posted on 06/16/2010 8:20:06 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Perhaps it is no wonder that the women were first at the Cradle and last at the Cross. They had never known a man like this Man--there never has been such another. A prophet and a teacher who never nagged at them, never flattered or coaxed or patronised; who never made arch jokes about them, never treated them either as "The women, God help us!" or "The ladies, God bless them!"; who rebuked without querulousness and praised without condescension; who took their questions and arguments seriously; who never mapped out their sphere for them, never urged them to be feminine or jeered at them for being female; who had no axe to grind and no uneasy male dignity to defend; who took them as he found them and was completely unself-conscious. There is no act, no sermon, no parable in the whole Gospel that borrows its pungency from female perversity; nobody could possibly guess from the words and deeds of Jesus that there was anything "funny" about woman's nature.

But not because she was a woman—but because she was a Syro-Phoenician. And she bested him. And he laughed.

Matt ch 15...

verses 25-26:
The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”

She even agrees, referring to herself as a dog in verse 27:
“Yes, Lord,” she said, “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”

The whole outcome is in verse 28:
Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

The story is also in Mark ch 7.

Oh please, women have worshiped Elvis, Rasputin, James Dean, and any serial killer with good hair. Women vote like they date, and date like they vote, which is how we got Clinton and the NEA. Women will chase any man with sense enough to smirk and run a few steps. Women are dumber than cocker spaniels when it comes to men, and if we weren’t, the human race would die out, so let’s hear it for female stupidity. But let’s not elevate beyond its worth: we’re dumber than any creature on the planet. Except men.

>But not because she was a woman—but because she was a Syro-Phoenician.

I didn’t claim that it was BECAUSE she was a woman.

>And she bested him. And he laughed.

I can definitely imagine Him laughing, but it doesn’t actually say that He did.

I don’t know about ‘besting’ Him, but I certainly see this story as sharing a common thread with the one about the Centurion’s Sick Servant. (Paraphrase: “I am not worthy that you should come to my house; you are a man of authority as am I [I say to one ‘go’ and he goes, and to another ‘come’ and he comes]... but say the word and my man shall live.” )

Matthew 15: 21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession."

23Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."

24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."

25The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.

26He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

27"Yes, Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."

28Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

JESUS called her a CUR, a wild dog, and she responded in faith and reminded him that the house-dogs ate the crumbs [they didn't have vacuum cleaners back then]. SHE DIDN'T TAKE OFFENSE AT WHAT JESUS SAID.

Let me repeat that . . . She did not take offense at what Jesus said. There's a lot in that statement to meditate upon.

Yes, I know.
You’re aware of the technique of saying something that is true, but seems somewhat outrageous (so that you can explain when ‘called’ on it) as a teaching method, no?

I was hoping to bring just that story to mind when I posted what I did... and you can’t argue that He *didn’t* call her a dog, because He clearly did when calling her a cur.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a gal who voted for Obama because of the way he talked. She now regrets voting for him and is scared of America's future.

I asked her if this was this first time she was duped by a guy's sweet talk.

She did not say, but the look she gave me provided the answer.

Sorry, nobody “bested” Jesus Christ.

And as far as the author of the piece saying how Christ never made a bad joke about them, Christ never made a bad joke about ANYONE, man or woman. He was perfect and never did one thing wrong. To say his perfect behavior towards women is indicative about how God feels about women is ridiculous, Christ treated everyone justly and perfectly. And still does.
