Not to quibble here, but Gutenberg was 15th century. The 11th was still the dreaded Middle Ages. The printing press might have been invented in China at that point, but not in the west.

The printing press predates Gutenberg a lot!
What HE did was to make the single letter movable type available so that the engraving of a whole wooden plate would no longer have to be done. The ability to quickly grab a handfull of type and arrange them to form words was an incredible speed increase to get ideas from mind to paper.
