Benny Hinn 'Shocked' by Divorce Papers (wife, Suzanne files for divorce)

After more than 30 years of marriage, faith healer Benny Hinn may be heading to divorce court.

Benny Hinn Ministries on Thursday confirmed that his wife, Suzanne Hinn, filed a petition for divorce in Orange County Superior Court on Feb. 1. She cited irreconcilable differences.

Though the couple separated on Jan. 26, according to court papers, the organization released a statement expressing shock.

"Pastor Benny Hinn and his immediate family were shocked and saddened to learn of this news without any previous notice," said Don Price, longtime senior advisor to Benny Hinn Ministries. "Although Pastor Hinn has faithfully endeavored to bring healing to their relationship, those efforts failed and were met with the petition for divorce that was filed without notice."

Just months before the petition, world renowned and controversial preacher Benny Hinn had come out to the public to answer his critics for the first time.

For years, Hinn has been a subject of scrutiny by the media and recently the government for the miraculous healings he claims to perform and the lavish lifestyle he leads. He travels to cities across the globe conducting "miracle crusades" and services. Reports from each event indicate that dozens are miraculously healed from a physical ailment, though Hinn admitted to ABC News recently that he doesn't have medical verification of the healings.

He also told ABC he has no misgivings about the comfortable lifestyle – a private jet, fancy hotel stays, and a multimillion-dollar home – he leads.

"Look, you know there's this idea supposedly that we preachers are supposed to walk about with sandals and ride bicycles. That's nonsense," he said.

Hinn is currently under a Senate investigation for possible financial misconduct.

And the fun thing about his is that once he is divorced he is not Biblically qualified to be a Pastor. But do you think he will step down? I think not.

Since Hinn decided to live the good life in CA his soon to be ex-wife is going to take him to the cleaners. I wonder how you split a private jet in divorce, hee hee.

Can you elaborate? I thought it was ok since Protestants are ok with divorce. I am asking this purely for informational purposes not making a snide or disparaging comment.

His devoted followers probably couldn’t care less if he didn’t step down.

I believe we have to take the CIRCUMSTANCES behind the divorce into consideration. He did NOT initiate the divorce proceedings. His wife did.

Rev. Charles Stanley had the same problem many years ago. According to church bylaws, Dr. Stanley will remain eligible to be pastor of First Baptist Church of Atlanta as long as he does not remarry. Dr. Charles Stanley's son Andy Stanley is the pastor of North Point Community Church in nearby Alpharetta, Georgia.

Serious question, not flaming. But does it disqualify him? I know the Bible says, "the husband of one wife" but I have known pastors that had been divorced. They had been examined by those in authority and the reasons for divorcing were deemed Biblical (adultery, not on his part).

I think any Pastor who has something like this happen should voluntarily step aside from the ministry and be under care of his leadership. In my denomination (I'm a Presbyterian), it would be the Presbytery. I'm not expecting this to happen in Benny's case though...

It’s well documented that his devoted followers (and they number in the millions) are funding his lavish lifestyle.

Just where did Jesus in his prohibition of Divorce mention mitigating circumstances surrounding the sordid practice. Wait, Henry VIII introduced his interpretation and so divorce is acceptable.
As for the remarriage, to remain a pastor is fornication an acceptable surrogate to maintain the position as pastor? It appears Jesus should have consulted several of you reformer types before instituting the rules and regulations.

Could be he’s talking about the Matt. 19 passage on divorce, or maybe the I Tim. 3:2 statement.
