This is just one of the many reasons why I’m no longer an Episcopalian. I turned to the Catholic Church even before Pope Benedict offered Anglicans a way out.

The Catholic church has already been down this road - with closeted folks. They paid for it dearly in lawsuits for child abuse.
Looks like the Episcopals are going to have to learn the hard way as well.
