Interesting post...I see credibility in some of whatis written, and a lack thereof in other parts. While I do believe that this individual is sincere in their relationship with, and seeking of, Christ and serving G_d the Father...their scholarship may be a little lacking. In particular, I find fault with the repeated use of the Christian pop-culture term ‘Yahweh’. The term utilizes what theologians call the ‘tetragrammaton’ (for the three characters,Y, H, and V or W.) - YHWH.

First the question of whether the third character should be rendered as a ‘V’ or a ‘W’ has never been entirely settled, to the best of my knowledge. Second, the Hebrew language often did not use vowels at all - but most especially NOT with this term.

The primary reason is this: it was a representation of what the highest of their high priests considered the unpronounceable and most HOLY name of Almighty G_d. No man’s lips were considered clean enough to articulate that name for most of the year.

I believe there was one exception allowed, once a year, for the High Priest. It was only when he was in the Holy of Holies, offering sacrifice for and seeking forgiveness of the sins of all the people. The most Holy name was articulated just once.

I am not idly name-calling, or calling this individual a charlatan or false prophet. I am calling attention to something which seems out of place and improper based upon my educational studies, general knowledge of traditions, and spiritual beliefs.

I am not fully able to quantify how far out of place something like this may place the remainder of the statements this person makes, but that much seems well out of order to me, and it causes me to approach the rest of it that much more skeptically prayerfully.

If you have feedback to offer, I would be interested.

Knowing the Bro involved above average for my FREEPER FRIENDS, I have no doubt that

YAWEH is a term os utmost reverence and endearment to him.

OH, Daniel Eggers article I posted . . .

DITTO, actually, imho, using YAWEH BY MOST ALL THE FOLKS I KNOW WHO USE IT—IS A TERM OF

—UTMOST REVERENCE
—UTMOST ENDEARMENT

It is as though “God” has become . . . generically cheapened by pagan use and derision . . . and somehow harkening back to the Hebrew Yahweh is a way some folks use to feel more intimately connected to and IN AWED REVERENCE TOWARD the ALMIGHTY OF THE BIBLE.

I don’t think scholarship has anything to do with it. They recognize it as a very treasured lofty, sanctified, sacred term for ALMIGHTY GOD of the Old and New Testaments and feel closer to HIM—ALMIGHTY GOD OF THE BIBLE—when they use it han when they use “God”—which seems to be splashed casually about by Mooselymbs, Hindus, Buddhists et al as well as atheists, agnostics and nominal “Christians” with a resulting tawdry cheapening in the process.

imho, GOD LOOKS ON THE ATTITUDE OF THE HEART.

If someone avoids meat as unto The Lord—He blesses that.
If someone eats meat as unto The Lord—He blesses that.

However, Axe murderers for Jesus would have a problem.

My 2 cents.

Valid points - which highlight just why it is that when I refer to our beloved Creator in writing, I render it as “G_d”, to impart a very deliberate visual stop to the reader, to convey my own heart’s reverence.

I still retain the scholarly objections I wrote of, for most of the same reasons already mentioned - however I will not hold it against them, because such things are not really common knowledge in our day and age.

I would not know about it but for the benefit of having personally known some of the more preeminent Biblical scholars of our time - among them (long gone now, but he was like family 20 years ago...) Ed Goodrich, who worked closely with John Kolenberger on the NIV Bible (if you have an NIV, you will easily find their credits in the front) and taught for years at Multnomah Bible School, and literally travelled the world as a lecturer and researcher.

Anyway that was the point of my query - I have known people (like you have known, no doubt) who fall all along the spectrum, from sarcastic to silly, to deliberately inconsiderate...to what I would consider Christian pop-culture gadflies - no minds of their own - just concerned about the latest spiritual trend, being seen as “in step with” everyone else - among the “cognoscenti”.

For my part - I care about being genuinely in touch with family and friends, with those in my body of believers and aware...but beyond that, loving our Saviour and just being able to say “it is well with my soul”.

Thanks for your response.

Mount Horeb.

Great reminder for those of us who want to stay awake and have our lamps filled with oil and have reserved oil for the time when it won’t be possible to buy oil.

Mount Horeb.

Seek Him while He may be found.

Well 'you know' He did give gray matter to His children to figure out how to prevent such offenses... I have referenced to you before regarding Gideon, (means cutter down), Gideon cut down his father's 'oak' (if my memory serves me correctly) grove where there was 'religious' activity taking place. And the Heavenly Father told Gideon to cull down his army to 300 so the people would know WHO saved them.

I am not predicting we are about to get this kind of culling, but given how brain dead the majority in this nation appear to be on any given day it could well come to that again. But it is about to get very religious.

Deaths as typhoon pounds Japan

Melor is the first typhoon to hit
Japan in two years [Reuters]

At least two people have been killed and dozens more injured in Japan, as a powerful typhoon swept its way up the main island of Honshu.

Typhoon Melor is the first such storm to make a direct hit on Japan in two years.

Packing gusts up to 200kmh, Melor made landfall before dawn on Thursday, tearing roofs off scores of buildings and forcing the cancellation of flights and train services.

According to Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency, more than 11,000 people have been taken to emergency shelters, while more than 40,000 homes were without electricity.

The two people confirmed killed were both struck by flying debris from trees felled or uprooted by the storm.

In the Japanese capital, Tokyo, train operators delayed or cancelled services on many lines, leaving commuters stranded across the city during the busy morning rush hour.

Parts of the city also experienced power cuts.

Japan’s meteorological agency warned that large parts of the country, including Tokyo, and the western industrial hub of Osaka, were at high risk of landslides as the typhoon moved along the archipelago.

Japanese car company Toyota announced that because of the typhoon it would halt production at all 12 of its domestic plants for one day.

The storm ripped off roofs and downed power lines as it swept through Honshu [Reuters]
The typhoon had weakened slightly as it churned across Honshu, but was “still very dangerous,” said Takeo Tanaka, a weather forecaster from the agency.

“Winds are violent and rain is torrential. You should also be on guard against mudslides.”

Typhoon Melor was later downgraded to a tropical storm.

Melor is the latest in a series of typhoons and tropical storms to batter east Asia this year.

Japan is among the best prepared countries in the region for handling typhoons and has built extensive defences against floods and landslides, including storm surge barriers to protect coastal areas.

But despite these precautions typhoons can still cause widespread death and disruption.

In August, at least 25 people were killed when Typhoon Etau caused flash floods and landslides in Japan, even though it avoided a direct hit.

The deadliest storm to hit Japan was Typhoon Vera in 1959 which tore through Honshu, causing widespread flooding and leaving more than 5,000 dead in one of Japan’s worst natural disasters.
