It looks like the ELCA will remain in tact at least through the rest of the year.
Today, hundreds of members from the Evangelical Lutheran church in America gathered in Indianapolis.
They're part of a Lutheran group called "core and are upset of a vote last month, which allowed gays and lesbians in committed same-sex relationships to serve as clergy.
The group decided within the next year theyd decide whether or not to split from the church.
I don’t get it, why wait? I doubt the liberal Lutherans are going to suddenly repent. They made their choice.
Erika needs an education.
* as of August 19, AD 2009, a liberal protestant SECT, not part of the holy, catholic and apostolic CHURCH.
A year gives ample time to take many congregations with them.
For one person to leave individually is not a hard thing.
To leave in-mass and remain organized is another.

I agree with your take. It seems that they wish to use this next year to provide for reallignment, wherein congregations can leave their current synod and join a CORE-based synod. Then, next year, the synod could, if it chooses, depart. Or, then again, they could remain, while refusing to fund the heretical national denomination.
CORE leave the ELCA? I’ll believe it when I see it...
