1. You die.
2. You stand naked with empty hands before God.
3. You are judged.
4. You live out eternity under His decision, happily, or unhappily.
Where does a post-death baptism fit in this scene? Does God suddenly say, "Oh, so you WERE baptised after my decision, well, I guess I made a mistake, didn't I. Ok, you can come up out of hell now."
Umm, humbly folks, I don't think this is the way it works.
Jesus died, he was dead and buried. What did he do for those 3 days?
The bible states that He went and taught to those in ‘prison’. If what you say is true, he wasted his time. What would be the point in preaching to souls ‘in prison’? To mock them? Or, is our life on earth simply a progression that continues after we die? Can we change the direction of our progression after death? Again, what would be the point in Jesus preaching his word to souls ‘in prison’?
If life is a progression, what is the purpose of living on earth? If there is no progression, then our ultimate fate depends on where we were born, when we were born, and if we were fortunate enough to die at a time when we had repented of our transgressions. Seems pretty risky to me, because I sin pretty frequently.
Of course, it doesn't work this way -- that's exactly why many refer to the LDS (Mormons) as a cult.
They are very offended at this claiming that they, "are Christians too" however their various "practices" as well as their definition of exactly WHO Jesus Christ was/is, defines them as a cult and nothing more.
If an obscure pigmy tribe in Eastern Africa had achieved technical level to access the names of people world-wide and was in the process of baptizing all those who have lived and or died, baptizing them into the religion of the sacred tree, would that change anything for a living or dead person who must answer before God at the Judgment? Not a whit. God will not be manipulated by the vagaries of cults.
I made it to steps 1 and 2...
You mean God is the only who looks at the Book of Life and is All Powerful? /s
