Caroline Kennedy, the Roman Catholic daughter of the assassinated President, has been rejected by the Vatican as the next US ambassador to the Holy See because of her liberal views on abortion, stem-cell research and same-sex marriage, according to Vatican insiders.
Andrea Tornielli, the biographer of Pope Benedict XVI, said that at least two other potential ambassadors put forward by President Obama have also been blocked because they did not share the Vaticans views on pro-life issues. A Vatican spokesman said that no candidates had been formally submitted and therefore it is not true that they have been rejected.
Vatican sources said that there had been informal soundings over a replacement for Mary Ann Glendon, the outgoing US ambassador to the Holy See, who is a Harvard law professor, president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and close to the Pope.
The Vatican hopes that the issue can be resolved before Mr Obama meets the Pope in the margins of the G8 summit to be held on the island of Sardinia in early July.
Raymond Flynn, a former US ambassador to the Vatican, told the Boston Herald that the views held by Ms Kennedy, 53, were problematic. Its imperative, its essential that the person who represents us to the Holy See be a person who has pro-life values, he said.

There will be liberal outcry about this. Where were they on the Rev. Wright issue? So, the Pope is ‘radical’, and Rev. Wright is OK?
Obama will bow to Islamic leaders, but will not even tolerate or even have any respect for Christian leaders.
I guess Napalitano will have to put the Vatican on the DHS watch list of Extreme right wing political groups...for being pro life!(sarcasm on)
The lord of the zer0’s does not have any sense when it comes to pro-life issues. They are above his paygrade.
Great One!
Wow, I am REALLY REALLY REALLY loving this Pope.
I bet the left has made him out to be Satan incarnate, which is really ironic since they usually want to use a religios reference when the religion itself is what ticks them off.
Children, liberals are like little babies and children.
The real reason she has been rejected is the Pope doesn’t want to hear, You know, repeated at least 5 times in every sentence.
I’m not Catholic, but I knew I really liked this pope when he gave the speech shortly after his election about moral relativism being one of the gravest threats today.... I literally cheered.
It’s pathetic the O administration has the audacity to send a cafeteria catholic to the Vatican.
Ahhh, Pope Benedict is another Right Wing Radical Extremist, I see! Maybe the DHS will put out a special threat report on him, too. Glad to see we’re in good company! (I love my “German Shepherd”!)
The only reason she was nominated is that she comes from a prominent “Catholic” family. But her views on any number of moral and social issues are the very antithesis of authentic Catholicism. Therefore, she is not really Catholic in any sense beyond the most technical. Therefore, she is no more qualified for this post than just about any random person pulled off the street. Therefore, there is no pressing reason to have her flout Church teaching in public view even while she is her country’s representative to the Holy See. Therefore, she is REJECTED!
Please find someone who will not heap coals on his or her own head just by engaging the roles involved in the office. Please find someone who will not keep the Vatican in the US news via endless slanted media hits in support of an “enlightened” US representative going toe-to-toe against a Vatican eagerly characterized as “antediluvian” by ignorant talking heads. Don’t play the fox HERE, Barack, you’re gonna lose every time!
Next...!
Attaboy B16!!
My parish priest told me it would be better to have no ambassadpr rather than to have one who is pro choice.
Actually, the Pope should be more careful with his actions, he could be replaced. (GM?)
Even Hitler didn’t have the stones to do that. ;-)
Those are the only kind of Catholics willing to work for him.
