WASHINGTON (ABP) -- The U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains is being criticized for a proclamation calling for prayer and fasting on April 8, which coincides with the first night of Passover, a high holy day on the Jewish calendar celebrated by a traditional feast called the Seder.
Maj. Gen. Douglas Carver, a Southern Baptist, issued a proclamation March 2 urging Army chaplains to pray and fast April 8 during a 120-day "stand down" period beginning Feb. 15 to focus on suicide-prevention awareness among soldiers.
"As spiritual leaders we are called to be a people of prayer," Carver explained in Internet newsletter article. "One initiative that was proposed is that we employ the power of collective prayer more consistently in our efforts to combat suicide. I have issued a call to all members of our Corps to join with me on 8 April in leading the Army Family in a special day of prayer and fasting for the preservation, protection and peace of our Army. I have directed our Center for Spiritual Leadership at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School to provide resources to support you in your prayer effort."

This Jew sees no issue here.
We need to pass a law making it a felony to be offended.
What on earth is this about ?
I’m Jewish. I’m not insulted or offended.
I can't see why any Jew would be offended. I suspect the guy behind the "outrage" is just using his faith as a cover because his true motive would not be acceptable.
Amen
I'm thinking the offense is not so much what all were supposed to fast and pray for, but rather the fact that (a) a Southern Baptist requested it, (b) disbelief that such acts can have a positive effect, and (c) a pissy, nit-picky liberal background that objects to ANYTHING proposed by whackos who still believe in G-D and expect the rest of the world to fall in line.
Just a guess.
Christians cannot pray on Passover? Since when is Passover a Jewish-only holy day?
I don’t know.
Apparently, some of my less secure tribesmen think it is a bad thing for Baptists to have observances that coincide with the Passover.
Me, I don’t get it. I think it’s false flag stuff to sow discontent and hatred by-and-between Christians and Jews.
I would guess its an over reaction. The Seder is a time of special meals and Kosher wine; not fasting, as I understand it.
There's your problem right there, Leopold is a lefty liar that assured us all that Karl Rove was being indicted.
I think the guy behind this is using his faith as a means to deflect criticism. I think the real goal is to make the armed services void of any religious presence.
Nice artwork, newbie.
Get real, folks. Prayer, fasting and service to the Lord is not particular to any monotheistic faith. If you're secular — call it meditation and cleansing. Call it what you like, but get with the program of supporting those who are weak and subject to self-harm.
It’s a time of giving thanks for the mercy of God. It’s a time for renewal of life and the respect of the life that is taken to sustain us all. It’s a time for celebrating and loving each other, followed (for Christians) by a time of prayer and fasting for the sin of the world that couldn’t see Truth when It was staring back at them. It’s a time to reflect on the Love of God and draw closer to Him.
I really doubt observant Jews would see it that way. God could have forced the Pharaoh to release the Jews at anytime. However, God didn't do that, instead God hardened the Pharaoh's heart and brought numerous plagues down on Egypt so that the entire world would know who is the great I AM.
Good point!
