The 9-5 Window
Crosswalk Daily Email 'Today God Is First' Devotion | Os Hillman

(Exod. 33:15-16).
Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?"

A few years ago, the "AD 2000" movement was a major emphasis in the church and had a goal of reaching the "10/40" window. This reference was related to the 10th parallel and the 40th parallel of the globe. It was determined that this was where the most people resided who had never heard the message of the gospel.

Today, there is a new move of God that is focused on the "9-5" window. This represents those who work--whether they are homemakers, construction workers, nurses, executives, Fortune 500 CEOs or pastors and vocational ministers. The one thing many of us have in common is that we work. However, the one thing most workers have failed to do is bring Jesus into their work lives. But, God is changing this.

God is helping workplace believers today understand the importance of bringing the presence of Jesus into their work lives so that He may be shared with those who have yet to receive salvation. God is calling us to move past "principle-based" living to "presence-based" living. It is only when we bring God's presence into our work lives that we see real transformation in us and others. It is the mission field of the 21st century--the "9-5" window. It is where more unsaved people live than the 10/40 window.

God is calling us to establish "church plants" into this new frontier that the church has failed to focus upon. The "Church" is a Church when two believers come together in the name of Jesus. It is not a building. It is a people. So today, bring the Church to the workplace by focusing your mission activity on the greatest mission field of the 21st century--the 9-5 window.

When people or circumstances block our goals, we get angry. If our mentally perceived goal is uncertain, we feel anxious. If the goal appears impossible, we get depressed. But what God-given goal can be blocked, uncertain or impossible? With God all things are possible, and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. No one can keep us from being what God wants us to be except us.

Well, I heard about that “10/40 window” for a long time. But it appears not too much came of it. Now that they’re talking about the “9-5 window” that seems a bit more promising...

At least the “9-5 window” doesn’t consist of an false and evil idealogy in league with Satan, dedicated to killing any who refuse this “idealogy of Satan”...

The author apparently can’t imagine what a few people can to to company unity and productivity by trying to ‘share their faith’ with other workers during business hours. This went on in a company that I (formerly) worked for. The entire thing was divisive and offensive. Good way to drive off customers, too. It used to be that religion, sex, and politics were off limits during work hours, for good reason.

It used to be that religion, sex, and politics were off limits during work hours, for good reason.I spent a good part of my career working for large companies.

When I started with one I spent over 15 years with, I was spiritually immature, looking only for materialism and getting ahead. Over the course of time, I befriended those who seemed to have an inner peace and calm -- not much rattled them. I wanted that for myself because I found myself in anger quite a bit.

I can recall chatting with one of these folks in his office one day and while he took a phone call, I looked on his bookshelf and there was a copy of the Bible. It came to me then like a bolt of lightning that if I wanted what Fred had, this is the path. I never asked Fred his denomination or what he believed, that was never important.

My mentor there is a devout Quaker. I only found this out when we spent time chatting about our famlies and things at breakfast and lunch.

These folks and others were put in my path by the Lord to show me the way, I have no doubt. We always had very productive working teams because of our individual beliefs.

I will agree if someone is coming to the workplace pushing his or her own doctrine and dogma -- condemning others who don't subscribe -- that is destructive.

Several in my church lead Bible study at their workplaces. They report nothing but success. When I see my doctor, we always set aside a few minutes to chat about religion and spiritual matters. We're now making it a point to get together for dinner and discussion outside the office.

If your religion isn't your life but something confined to church on Sundays, it's meaningless.
