Catholic bishops congratulate Obama
Articles of Faith ^ | November 5, 2008 | Michael Paulson

There must be a lot of disappointed Catholic bishops this morning -- dozens of them issued statements over the last few weeks suggesting that abortion should be the primary issue for Catholic voters, and yet it appears that a majority of Catholic voters opted for the abortion-rights supporting candidate in the race, Barack Obama, and helped him win the presidency. Obama's running mate, Joseph Biden, will become the first Catholic vice-president, but he, too, is a supporter of abortion rights.

The Rev. Thomas J. Reese, a senior fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, last night e-mailed his analysis, saying, "Catholic voters ignored the instructions of a group of vocal bishops and delivered 54% of their vote for Barack Obama as president of the United States." He cited a number of factors -- the importance of the economy, the endorsement of Obama by a few highly visible anti-abortion lay Catholic intellectuals, the presence of Biden on the Democratic ticket, and Obama's support for abortion reduction. But, Reese warned, "Will the abortion debate rise up again in four years at the next presidential election? A lot depends on President Obama and the Democratic Congress. If they push through the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), then they will have betrayed their pro-life Catholic supporters. This will make it nearly impossible for these people to support them again. On the other hand, if they make a priority the enactment of an abortion reduction bill, then it will be more difficult for the bishops and the Republicans to portray the Democrats as the pro-abortion party."

Deal Hudson, of InsideCatholic.com, offered a different take this morning, saying he wonders how much support Obama got from Catholics who regularly attend Mass...

"Catholic voters ignored the instructions of a group of vocal bishops and delivered 54% of their vote for Barack Obama as president of the United States."

"History will show that Catholics helped to vote into office a president whose record contradicts our most fundamental moral belief -- the sanctity of human life."

Simple, just excommunicate all who voted for abortion as what the (R) party should do with EVERY RINO. The big tent is a big loser.

In other news, the LTAFFG (Late-Term Aborted Fetus Focus Group) could not be reached for comment on Obama's election victory.

There was a strange sort of spirito-political barrier I saw some Catholics hiding behind this election cycle: One of them said to me “I’m very pro-life, but the Republicans haven’t done anything for life, so it doesn’t matter if I vote for Obama.” I reminded her that one or two more conservite SCOTUS appointments could drive a nail in the Roe V Wade coffin, but she didn’t seem to bite.

Sadly, they seem to be worshipping at the altar of the Cult of Obama instead of at the altar of the Lord.

It is ... but based on last night (esp in Pennsylvania) Catholics are resoundingly against Catholic doctrine.

Mark 13:20

Amen annie. - These rabid liberals mistakenly think that we are trying to FORCE their immoral women not to go to immoral “doctors” and get rid of their babies. - I faced it a long time ago that they are free to do that if they want to and that I can’t FORCE my morals on them. They will answer to God one day in the judgement. However, I do NOT want to, through my tax dollars, pay for abortion in any of its forms and especially not for the barbaric horrific types of abortion that defy human belief. I think a lot of them do and will use abortion as a means of birth control.. and I do not want my FREE SPEECH to be stifled about the murder of babies or ungodly sodomy practices in the interest of politically correct doublespeak.

I'd like to know how priests voted? My guess is that even more than 54% voted for Obama.

They self-excomnicated per church doctrine by aiding and fundmentally articipating in he futherance of abortion.

First, it was a mortal sin to vote for Obama because of his stated previous support of infanticide.

Second, since Obama “PROMISED” to Planned Parenthood and NOW that he would, when elected, push for and sign the “Woman’s Reproductive Rights Act”, they have actively participated in abortion.

Ding, ding, ding.....that’s the express elevator to Hell ringing for 54% of the Catholics.....and the sad thing is, they can’t reverse it....No confession or Hail Mary’s will reverse this.....Only true and complete repentance before God could help, and quite frankly, if they didn’t understand the issue before, this will never happen.

Obama has done more damage than Satan to dessimate the Catholic church and willfully mislead it’s flock......

Correct the hierarchy can’t be cozying up with these people and then expect the laity to vote against them.

American bishops do not take the opportunity, as Mother Theresa did, to publicly take pro-aborts to task when they appear in public together.
